The problem is that the people telling us about these things are the same people that benefit from their model (and AI generally) being used, getting publicity, etc.

I think we desperately need some independent group to evaluate claims like this or the world-ending Mythos cybersecurity risk and tell us what’s going on.

You could imagine that this wasn’t the case, right? Or you could imagine that investing in it for those people who do want it might improve your own life (e.g. by reducing traffic) not to mention society as a whole?

But you could imagine a country that invested, in addition to roads, cars, and oil, in public transportation, cities that you can get around on foot, and in renewable energy. Such a country might be better off that the US is now.

This doesn’t stop the scheme the parent proposes, where adults install some proxy on their device and challenges are responded to on the parent device. Then the private key never leaves the parent device and all the child device has is the proxy software, which could be set up to not log any identifier of the key that it used

Do you wish you had time to learn about them? Or do you wish you just knew them? Having them uploaded to your brain might make you know about them, but is much different from having time to learn them. This is important if for you, like for me, learning itself is a large part of the enjoyment

The value of water to a person dying from dehydration is infinite compared to someone who's adequately hydrated.

But most people are adequately hydrated in steady state, and to them the value of water is not that high. Since today it is necessary to sell an item for the same price to everyone, selling water for infinite money would lose nearly all customers.

(Not to mention that it’s possible to acquire water from natural sources, for free)

Realistically though, if there are some humans left, they are going to want to live in a society. Humans are fundamentally social and I think the people in charge would eventually realize this. But then again rich people are not normal, so maybe not

Opus in January was right about when AI became actually useful for coding for me. So if that’s the case, that is absolutely great.

Hm, I didn’t even consider that it could be an “agent” in the AI sense. I assumed this meant a service that runs on the device and interposes on requests to access privileged resources and enforces permissions checks on them. That is, the classical sense of the word agent in computing. Perhaps you’re right; in any case I don’t think there is really enough detail here to go off of.
