Love to hear some feedback on Party Bot from the HN community

Well that escalated quickly. It is a bit of a tongue in cheek, very early-stage, idea and the name definitely divides opinion, but pretty surprised how strongly people feel about it. Despite all the public negative comments here about how unbelievably sexist it is, private feedback has been positive - from both sexes, and in fact more females are signing up on the site than males at the moment... what does this mean?

I disagree. Older guys may have female friends, but I don't know any single friends (including myself when I was single) that ask female friends to go shopping with them - maybe they should, but they don't.

I think it's a pretty big thing to ask a non-girlfriend/non-date to go out on a day shopping with you just to help you out.

Maybe it's a stereotype, but it seems based on fact that a lot more girls enjoy shopping for clothes than guys do and have a better eye for guys' clothes than guys themselves.

Lot's of services with stylists (who are mostly women) picking for clothes for guys & sending them to you in a pack are popping up, like The Cloakroom: https://thecloakroom.nl/en/

The only difference with this is that the guy and girl go out shopping in a city together.

But I also find it curious that the idea draws so many strong reactions - positive & negative. I think the name has an impact.

Interested to hear more thoughts from people.

There are some 3rd party sites offering it for download, we didn't give them permission to, but they are there. If you just do a search for 'Party with a local app apk' you will find them.

Thanks dude. I'm the Founder of the app. It's been a lot of work and has changed forms a number of times, but it's finally out on iOS & Android and is starting to grow and work at connecting people around the world.

Yeah cool, indeed I agree the problem hasn't been solved, especially when you're traveling.

We did launch in the Netherlands yes, we are still based in Amsterdam.

The app is available globally and we want to reach locals and travellers everywhere - so we've done a lot of work on App Store optimization and localizing the description and keywords - getting them translated in every possible language on the App and Play Stores. Also done that for our promo video in some of the widely spoken languages.

However, we also realise its very difficult to launch everywhere and have a lot of active users (locals) in every city from the get go. So we are focusing on a number of key cities first - Amsterdam, Berlin, London in Europe initially, then some key cities in the US and Australia/Asia next and building up the local user base there with our own events & parties (we've got a big boat party coming up in Amsterdam end of August), content marketing (Best bar in Amsterdam on a Wednesday night), cross promotion with venues and events, a bit of local press, social media etc

Cheers. That's a good point too. My SW team of 9 was good everyone contributed something over the weekend, but a lean team of 2-4 with the skills you really need to execute could probably do more

Yes indeed, I was at SW London in 2011. What were you working on? Still working on it? I totally agree the networking is one of the best parts of SW, I've met some great people via it.
