A lot of kids (middle and high schoolers) these days have pet projects like making html based website and writing a discord bot in javascript. The fact that our district hands out chromebooks probably contributes to the trend.

Using this opportunity to ask - has anyone here used torrentpanda before? Imo it was the best torrent search site with a big database of crawled torrents. They seem to have disappeared a few months ago and I haven't found any working domains so far.
The old site is torrentpanda.org but going to it now gives error page and redirects to softcore porn.
You make a really great point. This AI stuff is certainly powerful for whoever controls them, though I personally believe that's a problem with the operator or societal system rather than the AI itself.

Why do things like this generate so many responses along the lines of "this is depressing," "technology is terrifying," "humanity is doomed" and etc? We've always loved entertainment ever since the dawn of our species. "Generated people" just seem like another form of entertainment medium, enabled by advancements in technology, to me.
Sure, I see the points about how we're more and more isolated and anti social and stuff.. but is that really a problem? Our evolutionary programming has the primary objective of genetic propagation, but it's ultimately up to us to decide our purpose in life. Someone said that real "AI-takeover" scenarios would involve such enthralling fantasies and entertainment that humans cannot even begin to imagine, and humans won't even put up a fight against AIs. As for me, I'm not alarmed; I absolutely look forward for that scenario to happen.

Another part of the consideration is that transistors are abstracted away into functions like logic gates partially because it makes it easier for the designers. Neurons on the other hand can likely take advantage of all sorts of complex interactions and behaviors as the "maximum local complexity" is not an issue.

There's been lots and lots of titles with Denuvo cracked by scene groups like CODEX and CPY/Conspiracy and EMPRESS[1]. There's also controversy with the DRM's highly excessive and arguably wasteful use of resources. Some games were much more performant after Denuvo was removed

Quick google search suggests otherwise. It appears to depend on configuration but can go over 50 GHz, is that true? Would be a real broad band operation if they're trying to jam all that.
I think the key is that, the machines that make extremely advanced machines are not that advanced in of themselves.
You don't have to go down that many layers from the machines that foundries use (arguably objects among the very apex of human technology) to bog standard fabrication machines like lathes and mills and whatever they use to cast metal. We have lots of those around the world. It will definitely take a bit of time, but I don't think it will be all that utterly devastating.

Except I'd imagine that most people won't feel the terrorist attack quite so quickly, giving folks likely enough time to recover. If they got bombed up, all the foundries would be fine and can continue production of chips as usual. Of course, the machinery need sophisticated maintenance and replacement parts, but most of those can be produced by non specialist equipment (like normal mills and lathes and stuff for all the mechanical structures). Zeiss plays a big part with the optics and stuff so that would mostly be covered as well.
I'm not sure how one could end up trusting such organizations besides "just taking their word for it".. also this system sounds more flawed than what you could do with cryptocurrencies?

Larger feature size would help the power consumption in this case as well - larger distance between transistor features means less leakage which means less static power consumption. Dynamic power consumption would of course increase but that shouldn't be much of an issue with analog chips.

I believe Sam avoids using anything that's super awful to deal with. There's well defined procedures for taking care of most chemicals that involve neutralizing them sufficiently to be flushed down the drain

Curious, could one apply fancy control theory and modern computing at the problem and fix most of the accuracy and flex problem? Position feedback with integrated sensors can be very compact and highly accurate, and human muscle seem to also use feedback control for holding position..
It's very noticeably slower and computationally intensive compared to Sumatra (or Okular) with larger files like 1000-page long reference manuals as well as massive textbooks, both of which I frequently use. On web browsers, it generally takes a whole few seconds to load if you scroll quickly past a few pages.
I guess if you don't need to jump around in big pdfs, Firefox viewer is perfectly fine.
(I'm just talking out of my ass but) I'd imagine the screenshots can be compressed pretty efficiently, as the content of any photographic detail like images/picture don't need to be preserved with outstanding quality..
