I have been unable to give my money to Home Depot, REI and a growing list of online retailers because they use Akamai EdgeSuite, which just assumes I am a bot and 403s on protected API calls. This happens consistently on any IP and any browser on my Linux desktop/laptop.

I have the same, and I concur. In the end, I gave up and just kept the GPU on all the time. Now it works great with external displays in Xubuntu 20.04 at the expense of battery life.
I have never, ever, had a good experience at a Hertz (or most of the other majors to begin with). The process of renting a car is one dark pattern after the other, from the website, to the real-life rental location, even the cars themselves. Every experience was at best frustrating, typically rage inducing. I won't miss them.

We use Redis Cluster quite extensively. The one thing to be very cautious and load test if running in a cloud environment is failover of nodes that are very loaded in terms of keys. If your nodes are holding multiple GBs of data, and depending on your persistence and other configuration settings, Redis may need to hit the disk to recover. If you don't have enough IOPS provisioned, be prepared for a long recovery time. The other thing that used to be problem but is getting much better now is the maturity of the different client libraries with respect to handling Redis Cluster specific idiosyncrasies.

I've been keeping close tabs on the project for a while now and it seems that version 1.8, which should be released in a few days, has the beginning of a rudimentary API. It also looks like more endpoints are being planned for subsequent releases

I have a Lenovo T460s running XUbuntu 16.04 and I'm extremely happy with it. I have 20GB RAM and 512GB SSD and the WHQD screen (2560x1440). Very reliable, current uptime with 4.4.0 kernel is 62 days. The only downside is somewhat poor battery life. Under heavy utilization, I get 3-4 hours out of it.

If you can tolerate some latency on writes, AWS Kinesis is perfectly serviceable. You can write your own "stream" processing logic in a number of languages and the provided KCL/SDK from Amazon does most of plumbing. Eventually, you will probably want to move to something more sophisticated though.

Lead iOS Engineer | ONSITE | Full-time | San Francisco, CA | VISA (will transfer H1/O1/E3)
We are looking for a Lead iOS engineer to take Tubi TV to the next level on iOS and tvOS for Apple TV (and Android and xbox and a bunch of other devices if one is also interested in that). This is a hands on position, but you will get the chance to shape & grow the team and install best engineering practices. You would also of course be deeply involved in the product planning and decision making. Tubi TV is the largest free streaming TV network; think Free Netflix. We are VC funded but we also have substantial revenue and inked partnerships with major Hollywood studios. If you enjoy consumer products, movies, good UI/UX (we have two designers in the team) and a professional work environment without ninjas or rockstars, you will have a lot of fun at Tubi Tv.
Interview process is: 1. Intro call to learn more about the company & the role (optional) 2. Technical screen over Google Hangout (any language/editor you want) 3. Onsite interview, ~1/2-day
