I am working on hammer https://thehammer.io/ , it is a voice device that I have build and have been using for past several months for texting and getting answers to my questions via AI chatbots.
I started with the idea of replacing my phone with a texting device that can still keep me connected but realized phone has became utilitarian that it is not possible to replace it.
I still have to take my phone when I am outside but when I am home or at work, I now use hammer exclusively to text or to get answers. The most benefit I have got is that I don’t have the urge to open my phone and go on endless scrolling binge.
That is perhaps the current administration, may be we do need a visionary in government again
World war I and II in general?
I think this is where government steps in for each country, go on the path of exploration that has no profit per se in it like space exploration, human body understanding. I am drawing parallel to 1930s or 40s where great depression was smoothen because America embarked on to take many huge infrastructure projects.
Lastly, OpenAI and Anthropic or any other frontier labs needs to be nationalized because they become a public utility and the profits of automation goes to fund infrastructure or grand projects via government.
We do not need to do menial work anymore and AI is helping us with it, what we can do exploratory work, and we need a visionary to get this rolling.
Thank you Tim Cook, as I am writing this on an iPhone.
Is this a golden opportunity to take on the software side of Apple, native apps like photos and messages, notes app? So much good data we give to Apple apps sit their idling, there is a play here to turn them into an independent playable artifacts and shared digital human network company. My friend emma has her snack Game on! I would like to get a snack list derived from her snack data. Yes, texting works but there is no programmatic way of accessing each other’s data. I believe this data needs be freed from Apple.
Apple’s privacy approach is stellar, that quest though is a prison where our data goes and does a slow death.
I am working on making grocery online shopping less overwhelming and more like a rolling list, you keep adding items as you see them (missing) in your household and it silently records it at the backend. When you are ready to pick up order, you push to qfc cart via api (a button) and boom your grocery shopping is done. No need of making lists and then one by one putting them on the cart. It works with any QFC or Kroger store because to my disbelieve they actually have an open sku and cart api. Grateful to Kroger to be tech forward. Free to use , here is the link https://www.ddisco.com/sonic/customer My wife is hooked on it as she had to take time in the week to sit down ask me what to order and then build the cart. Now it’s like just typing in what you need.
Next I am making the version for folks who do not make a list and just go with past orders , for them I am automating so the cart is made based on past orders like milk usually is ordered every 2 weeks.
Totally tangent, a startup get promoted to getting funded if the business model is simple. May be opt for a startup.
Waymo is the answer to all our problems
Why are we not focussing on rocket based travel so we can finally do 90 mins from Seattle to London :)
Spacex and blue origin has already demonstrated heavy payload transport, why can we just move to this than work on supersonic
Happy New Year HN! Grateful for the insights I get every morning from fellow humans through the comments.
This year I sold my company, for a while I thought I will die with it. This year has been brutal in some ways, tackling lots of daemons and getting through them.
Wishing everyone a great new year celebrations with friends and family.
Love you HN.
To me it was Django that made python a choice of language to develop on. On top of it , not dealing with pointers of c++ made it much simpler to use.
Grateful for Meta to release models and give the GPU access for free, it has been great for experimenting without the thinking overhead of paying too much for inference. Thank you Zuck.

Impressive and a good mission startup! How did you get workday, peoplesoft etc. to give the data to you? I assume all these companies do not like to share data, since as someone else also pointed out that each of these system of records are adding AI capabilities and bundling them.
Would be great to understand topics from family via AI (givem all the interviews are fed there) that they can’t discuss face to face
Disco it , currently Nordstrom catalog is LLM searchable
Understood! How does it work if we have several different restaurants to order from, do I need to record each ordering session and create skills for each restaurant or it can infer on its own given the task to order from a restaurant. Secondly, any docs or samples to see how to integrate this with your API?
Pretty slick. I recorded a session for ordering from a restaurant website, and it did repeat the entire workflow. It had some issues with a modal popped up but all in all well done! We have been trying to robotify the task of ordering from restaurant for our clients and seems like your solution can work well for us. I am guessing that you want your users to use Autotab browser, what is use for API?
Amazing work! I have been working on robotifying operation task for my company - a robot hand and a vision that can complete a task on the monitor just like humans do. Have been toying with openAI vision model to get the mouse coordinates but it’s slow and does not return the correct coordinates always (probably due to LLM not understanding geometry)
Anyhow , looking forward to try your approach with mediapipe. Thanks for the write up and demo, inspirational.
I think weekday may be better!
Prototyping :
- Financial credit building for children via parent
- a better Siri (but many companies in this space is demotivating)
- a Capitol Hill Club, kind of like a country club for people, parents, kids to relax after work and which is not a restaurant
Even more meta, make food for a family?
TLDR -: Knowing self is valuable info but like everything - in moderation.
Good viewpoint but this article does the same thing as Esalen did - look inside and find your worth to extreme...of course every thing has a dark side and so the Esalen approach led to failure is because of self....
As I see, there are two ways to look at this. 1. We are all in a actors/actress in this play called life and there are always going to be good moments and bad moments. So human potential movement has its dark/bad side and there's that. 2. Secondly, I have been on a journey inwards so this is my perspective. It's valuable to look inside and find the authentic you..though the way our human society functions, we tend to follow/do what other people tell their image of us...so it's valuable to see one's authentic self. When I say authentic self, to me it means that one is able to find something worth doing that is also paying their bills...
This was a pretty dope read. Ben has the ability to say things in the most easily understandable way.

At Peach, we are optimizing the food delivery network by using fewer delivery resources. Peach started last year in couple of amazon buildings and now is in 200 offices across Seattle and San Diego. Every week we decide the lunch menu for the cities based on their office preferences as well as the restaurant availabilities.
We are bunch of fun people working on this since last year, raised seed and just completed our series A. Please reach out to us at jobs at peachd.com and we will answer any of your questions. Also peachd.com/about has a little bit about our current team as well.
You can also ping me Nishant at peachd.com if you have any questions.
Well fine print aside sure they have lot of hidden clauses but it's a good start I would say. Nice to have Washington State also adopt something like this since now Seattle has a growing Startup community
This is so awesome. Though I only have 2 servers and repo is not very huge but sometimes it takes close to 10 secs to deploy. A 45% decrease for python is incredible
The name in itself is so beautiful.
