What would you suggest if your OS project was bound to MIT and there's no way of introducing a commercial license?

heatmap.js (my pet project) unfortunately has those constraints and I'm currently trying a mixed model of high priced premium support and donations.

Donations got me almost nothing, high priced premium support got me a few hundred dollars within a few weeks after I introduced it- more than I made the last 4 years with donations.

I'm also trying binpress as a secondary channel to sell support. will see how it performs over time, but binpress looks promising so far

Yes you are right, the main purpose of the last demo is to try to prevent a screen shot (ignoring all other techniques to obtain the image). thank you I, already forgot about it and will change that

that reminds me of another technique I used but didn't describe in the article which could be interesting for you:

encode the viewer's IP into the image (with steganography, wrote a small script for that) on the server (every request). whenever your image pops up somewhere in the web you know which IP address is to "blame" (easily bypassed with IP obfusication software though :) )

for me it was primarily about the technical challenge of trying to prevent a screen shot in a web browser.

Indeed, it would be great if Mozilla did work against those techniques. I really don't like websites that implement them...

author here: I do not advocate using any of the techniques, please don't use it, it's terrible and will give your users headaches! I'm against ressource "protection" on the web, what's on the internet should be fully consumed by users of it! The article describes just a few experiments I set up to see how far someone could go if it WAS important ( "for a few minutes, let's assume things on the web should be protected…" ). Thanks for the feedback so far!

SEEKING WORK - remote, based in Austria

I'm a JavaScript & Frontend Developer with a strong interest in data-visualization, product management, and mathematics. I'm currently looking for the next interesting client project. Throughout my 6+ years of industry experience I created a couple of popular open source software projects ( heatmap.js [0], nude.js [1] ), launched several web products, and consulted companies with their web strategies (don't hesitate to ask me about my portfolio)

I love to work on anything web-related with interesting challenges and aspects that haven't been done.

I work from home part time (living in a small apartment) and built a standing desk out of a shelf, a piece of wood and a black glass plate. I specifically designed it as small and simple as possible so my work space has no physical distractions and there is no space left for piling paperwork.

I also created a physical Kanban board to manage day-to-day tasks, it's right next to the standing desk and I enjoy its omnipresence because I can always see the big picture of my work. (also the mere exposure effect kicks in :) )

Here's a picture, it's small, it's simple, I love it: http://www.patrick-wied.at/misc/img/standing_table.jpg
