Since Odesk/Elance merger there's been a flood of freelancers who bid a low as $3 per hour and very little for fixed price jobs. Seems the avg dollar amount for work has been dropping. I could be wrong. Anyone else noticing a trend?

This child may even come to understand the difference between "it's" and "its".

Thanks to Paul Graham, Sam Altman, Paul Buchheit, John Collison, Patrick Collison, Jessica Livingston, Robert Morris, Geoff Ralston, and Fred Wilson for reading drafts of this.

I have to admit that I finally stopped reading after "My heart freaked out. My heart didn’t want to be closed. It didn’t want to be touched."

You still have not pointed out my alleged insult (as in personal attack). The only insult I see here is your passive-aggressive one: "Humanity never ceases to amaze me, on both ends of the spectrum." As for your questioning why I did not reference external sources, the invalidity of this popular myth is far from arcane knowledge, especially on the Internet where it is just one web search away, and I do not reward lazy ignorance.

My first draft was actually more harsh, mostly because I do not consider this essay well written in several aspects. I did not insult the author; I just did not sugarcoat my criticism, as US American culture of insincere friendliness may demand.

As a result, my left brain, the expert at numbers and language and logic and reasoning, a part of it suffocated and died. My right brain, the specialist with regard to color, music, creativity, intuition, and emotions, therefore could not talk to my left brain.

This popular myth of broad specialization of the hemispheres needs to die. The author lost credibility there.

Medicinally Li is provided as the carbonate salt. A minimal dose is 300 mg/day, which contains ~ 30 mg elemental Li.

Lithium carbonate is about 19 % elemental lithium by mass (lithium carbonate contains two lithium atoms per molecule), so 300 mg would be ~ 57 mg lithium. Also, to my knowledge, the typical therapeutic doses are at least 900 mg/d in adults.

By "people like you" I mean people like you who go to social bookmarking sites, don't bother to properly read the article, state the (in this case: scientifically) obvious, mix in some ignorance about the topic at hand and then lean back thinking they had contributed anything insightful. In short, by "people like you" I mean the peanut gallery.

The problem with people like you who have this Pavlovian conditioning of belching out "correlation != causation!!!!!1" whenever an observational study is mentioned which doesn't affirm their own preconceptions is that they seem to be incapable of understanding that it is practically infeasible to run randomized controlled trials to study the interactions between complex lifestyle factors such as diets and complex diseases such as cancers and CVDs, as you would have to somehow ensure sufficiently high study compliance in a sufficiently large sample over a sufficiently long period of time, i.e., decades; not to mention ethical implications.

If I ever need a 24bit USB DAC, I will get one. Considering I think 256 bit MP3s sound just fine, and FLAC far to much effort, I probably will never need one.

He decided for a 24-bit DAC in order to have enough headroom for software volume adjustment, because lowering the volume in software reduces the effective number of bits and thereby maximum dynamic range. He didn't claim that humans could hear a difference between 16-bit and 24-bit bit depth under practical conditions.

I read him differently. He only criticized objective claims which were scientifically implausible or found to be untrue, e.g., that vinyl had higher fidelity than CD as a medium, that humans could hear a difference between cheap and expensive cables, or when his measurements differed remarkably from manufacturers' specs, i.e., false advertising. He did not criticize subjective preferences such as vinyl over CD, fancy cables over cheap ones or tube amps over op-amps. Only when false/implausible objective claims came into play did he refute them.

This text is nothing more than an aspirational humblebrag: "Look at me, I am so intelligent and have so much access to intelligent, wealthy, attractive people that I don't have to care about intelligence, wealth and beauty any longer! I have become blind to such superficialities and am now closer to enlightenment than any of you!"

Furthermore, for someone with a "Bachelors [sic] of Science in Writing" her writing is remarkably poor (e.g., "A millennia ago", "Lamborghini’s").
