This would be illegal in the EU + UK, and certainly doesn't work like that in the UK. Potentially LinkedIn only made that change based on jurisdiction so maybe you two live in different places?

This is even more than just android, I'm sure there are plenty of us using AOSP forks that do not have google services installed. I think the EU will overturn this with enough noise though. Yea you're completely correct, any computer science degree worth it's salt will cover computer architecture, networks, basic maths, etc. Do I remember every little detail about how transistors,the memory bus, or every network topology works? nah of course not, but does having a reasonable overview of how it all works under hood help inform system design when you're tackling the hard problems, performance, reliability, security,etc? Knowledge is power, so more knowledge can never be a bad thing.

Not the author, but to me the main benefit of decentralisation will always be the stability of independence from organisations. If any aspect is centralised, you are dependent on the provider of that service. What if they go out of business, what if the EU make encrypted chat illegal, what if they get coerced by the state to hand over information? An entire class of security issues disappear when you are not dependent on a third party, particularly one that with be subject to state regulation and interference.

I think what its trying to say is race as a defined biological categorisation doesn't really exist, at least not to the extent its been described in past. The biological variance between humans is more of spectrum than categories.
