I'm pretty sure most of the comments in this thread are AI bots propping up this product?

I tried the free model and it's nowhere near Sonnet 4.6 in terms of capabilities. The fact that token speed will randomly get stuck at 0/s makes sense given it's a free service, but the way it performs is more reminiscent of AI from 2025.

I recommend trying Zenject in Unity! It provides a pretty good dependency injection framework, but more importantly in reply to your comment it has a very easy to use signal bus implementation!

Now I have not tried Godot so I don't know how the two compare, but for where I work Zenject was basically the a-ha moment that made it possible to develop Unity apps/games that don't devolve into a huge unmaintanable mess.

Somewhat unrelated, but I'm still waiting for an affordable PC monitor based on e-ink technology. Dasung has been making some progress in the area but their products are quite expensive, around $1000 or more for anything with a useable size. People might disagree on the count of lack of colors, but to me e-ink technology seems very well suited for writing code. And who knows, maybe in a decade or so the refresh rates for these color e-ink might be in a usable range as well.

Not to mention that many of the skills needed by the original cavemen to survive are gone in today's society. In other words, if we were to compete with the original cavemen in their environment, we would most likely fare rather poorly, at least in the short term.

Not trying to glorify off-the-grid living or anything, but I think it's interesting to think that in some (very specific) ways, the cavemen were actually superior to us.

I'm surprised to see the service speed listed at 6 knots. Seems quite low for a container ship, no? From my limited anecdotal evidence of having cargo ships pass my sailboat, they're usually doing easily 10-15 knots. I wonder if that's related to battery efficiency being better at lower power consumption? In any case, for a short route mostly in shielded waters, as presented in the article, this doesn't seem like a hige downside.

I also have to comment on the "emission-free" moniker. Was the construction of this ship emission-free? Definitely not. Is the maintenance of the ship going to be emission-free? Probably not. I'm not saying we shouldn't be trying to reduce our emissions, but seems like nowadays there's often an almost indistinguishable line between actually trying to produce a sustainable product, and just doing greenwashing to get more government grants and investors onboard.

I was thinking how, surely, mineral oil isn't food-safe and well-fit for use on a utensil. However, it turns out that while low-grade mineral oil is proved carcinogenic, the high-grade version is not believed to be so, unless dispersed in a mist. And apparently, we consume quite a bit of mineral oil due to it's use in the baking industry (though that figure comes from 1961)

Yes, it turns out that making a decentralized system both secure and scalable is a difficult problem, so people have been looking for ways to deal with it and improve on the original solution of Bitcoin (which, by the way, as I'm sure you know, has incredible energy consumption just to validate less than 5 transactions per second. How is that global?). I don't think that organizing decentralized nodes into some sort of bottom-up structure takes away from the P2P nature of blockchains. Just because a solution to a problem is not trivial and easy to understand (which Bitcoin is from the point of view of many more contemporary protocols), does not make it invalid.

At least Solana is a level 1 protocol, as opposed to some other solutions like sharding or zkRollups which add even more complexity.

I suggest you look into blockchains like Solana and Fantom, there have been some technological advancements lately that allow crazy fast and cheap transactions (with some other downsides of course).

I think of the current state of crypto as a kind of a wild west situation, there's still so much to be discovered and there's a lot of competition between different tokens to see who can do something better than the others. Saying that it's too slow right now doesn't mean it still will be a couple years down the line.

You can usually just open the developer console and delete the modal element, however this site also disables scrolling somewhere it seems. Couldn't figure out where quickly, so I just read the article in the element inspector.

Anyway, I think my work here is done :) I am not demanding we stop growing lettuce, I am demanding we stop raising cattle for proteins. We can keep growing lettuce for vitamins / minerals. As for the so-called "absurd fake figure" for protein/meat land utilization, that figure is from 1970's. I'm willing to concede that number may have risen slightly with the use of antibiotics as growth stimulator ;)

P.S.: Legumes are a whole family of plants, divided into 11 major types.

And meat animals use less resources per pound of protein that vegetable sources.

Edit: Where do you think the protein in cattle comes from? Isn't it… plants? That the cattle eat? Once eaten, the cattle expend some energy to live and then we kill them for meat.

By not eating animals, you cut out the middleman and waste less energy.

I think you may be wrong here. Firstly, most cattle is not grazed on open pastures:

Rather, they are kept on feed imported most likely from South America, and "Agriculture is the direct driver for worldwide deforestation" [2].

So how does attempting to minimize deforestation not address the issue?

The argument is that in order to produce 1000 calories worth of meat, more resources (e.g. land, water, greenhouse emissions) are needed than to produce 1000 calories worth of plant-based food.

Same argument: even though meat makes up only 18% of calories in our diets, it produces 58% of agriculture-produced greenhouse gases and takes up a whopping 83% of currently farmed land, compared to overall agriculture [1][2]

I disagree that art is limited to things which have no clear value for survival. People have decorated every-day objects in their surroundings for millennia. Survival-themed video games have an innate attractiveness to many of us. Some even seek out to make their homes as plain & functional as possible and call it an art movement — minimalism.

There's a Weechat plugin [1], however I remember it having problems with UI lags. In addition, the official Freenode bridge on matrix.org often has problems as well, but that's what I get for not bothering to run my own bridge. At least it seems like the Weechat plugin is under active development. [2] I should give it another try.

I don't understand why the type of bint was chosen, and what impact, exactly, does it have on the usability of the network.

Or, asked differently: Given some task that you want to train your network for, how do you decide which type you should choose?
