Lately I've come to understand the term engineer somewhat differently from this excellent video from the 'engineerguy': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ivqWN4L3zU

He defines the Engineering Method as: 'Solving problems using rules of thumb that cause the best change in a poorly understood situation using available resources.'

In that sense a Software Engineer would not necessary need to know all the complexities of the complete system to make something work as specified. And I would equate a 'Programmer' more like the Scientist or Mathematician in this case.

Funny how there are so many different ways to look at a title.

I’d hate to say it, but unrepairability is another nail in the coffin for me trying to support alternative devices compared to the big boys.

I’d like my devices to last at least 4-5 years, even if they have to be repaired at some cost in that time. I understand not being able to walk into the closest repair shop, but would like to mail it in.

I guess with service costs, the true cost of the watch would be as much as just buying 2 like this.

Would it be fair to say that consulting firms could get the top (good) people in a developed country, but also is more likely to hire the smartest but corrupt people in a corrupt country? As that is the name of the game in those countries.

And the HQ not caring as much because those other countries bring in the 'franchise fee'. At the risk of a story like this.

This is pretty good advice and I'm glad I recently did some of the steps at a new company.

Any people doing a diary today? How does it help you and do you refer back to it? Seems like you could amass quite a lot if you do it daily.

I think my iCloud photos library could be a bit of a substitute for literal things that happened, and twitter for some (non-private) thoughts.

Do you have any suggestions for fun little apps to replace all the features that all facebook properties have to offer? Because, lets face it, owning 3 of the 5 top social apps in the world is way to much power for a single company (which is just a group of people).

I feel like most of the people I know who are still on facebook are there for one reason and would quit their account otherwise. For me it would be one private group and maybe a couple event invites a year. This could be replaced by another more privacy friendly app I think. What would do it for you?
