This is solid advice. I'd add that community presence matters more than you might think—but it has to be genuine. Hanging out in Slack groups and actually helping people (without immediately pitching) builds real relationships. When you do mention you're consulting, people already know your work quality.

The portfolio/OSS combo is key because it removes risk. Clients can see what you actually ship, not just what you claim. Even small open source contributions help more than you'd expect.

One thing missing: referrals. Your first few clients are the hardest. But if you do good work, they'll refer others. That becomes your growth engine pretty quickly, so don't treat early clients as one-offs.

Yes, and many people set up a column in Hotsuite/Tweetdeck/etc. to track a few hashtags passively. When someone's using #ritetag or #startuplife, #hashtagmarketing, I see it this way.

There is personal experience - from our people and the many that talk about hashtag successes. As examples, "operation wallstreet" rallied tremendous community support with #ows and then related hashtags like #owsboston etc. When there was media blackout about a rigged election in Iran and phonelines were even blocked, a hashtag spread the truth. What's more, it was my personal experience, during the big earthquake and tsunami (tidal wave) in Japan, and seeing how I could find very relevant tweets from hashtag streams rather than the cover-up on Fukushima on TV that led me to understand that hashtags have power - but that no one knew which was any better than another.

Actually, hashtags are not just for marketing, nor is RiteTag. People get plenty done, such as bringing people to #hackforgood or hackathon events, search for lost children, and more. But without a hashtag grading system, they really have no idea which hashtags are best for getting discovered.

Note that this interactive Hashtag Scan is free and open to all, but to see the data beyond the "Summary" tab, and to save tagsets so they'll be at hand in Tweet Composer, just register or login (free). You can even create your own Scans in "Alerts" at the top - and set which ones to turn on/off - so they'll let you know when new hashtags are associated with your query. Remember: queries are topic words, hashtags, events, products, brands, schools, anything.

In regards to plan cheaper than our "Lite" plan, kindly keep in mind that we have hard costs. Scaling up to meet the needs of API customers, and also, recaculations on the nearly 2 million Hashtag Scans that our users reply on... recalculations on millions of hashtags as for their likelihood of leading to discovery, this take a lot of access. Further, we provide actual analytics that help RiteTaggers learn from their efforts. I don't believe you'll find anything nearly as cheap as our Pro plan - let alone the Lite plan - that does anything close to this. When you're in there and do some smart-tagged tweets from RiteTag, you'll see this in Stats and also My Top-performing tags (Tweet Composer). But do let me know @osakasaul if you still believe we're costly.

RiteTag is not an SEO tool, its a SSO tool: for optimizing your content in social media to reach more, with relevancy. Some tools do tag illustration: stats. RiteTag is a tool for discovering reaching tags, per network (they vary per network) and learn about tags as well. Its not about optimizingtweets and other content to be seen by those not following you, but following and searching for your tagged topics. Many more networks with topic hashtagging are in the plans for integration, as our first users tell us how they need to tag their photos, images, and goods better to get seen more, and thus sell more. Rather than rush to add every social network with an open API, we focus on relevancy and honing the results in the RiteTag Reports.

The problem with the graph search: it is still limited to your connections and their's; you can't reach beyond your following with hashtags, as we can with Twitter, G+ - and over 50 social networks and sites with topic hashtags that are searchable.

How does this fly as an acceptable question to ask - but I cannot get feedback on my project, despite being a member for over 700 days...? I get the "your account is too new to submit" message.
