"I think if we had one more good java/ui engineer we'd be kicking butt vs youtube."
Unfortunately, this very attitude continues to be the bane of every large company. Thinking they can throw a body on the problem can make them invincible.

Opened the link thinking the article was about how to move on from a company that's probably going to shut soon. Learned something nonetheless.
Someone please re-purpose this to use Twitter handles!
I'm guessing the reason these universal API's don't exist is because there would be no business model and hence no billion dollar companies. However, Europe's PSD2 regulation was essentially launched to establish these open API's for banking
PiP is so functional and I've been using it for sometime now.
Spent time on an extremely silly yet immensely satisfying project: https://what2cook.today
What2Cook Today helps you save time by recommending new meals with recipes.
This project came out of sheer frustration trying to think of new things to cook everyday during this lock down. Currently, the website covers primarily Indian meals but I will hopefully cover more cuisines in the future.
What2Cook Today is a side-project that was a week-long one built in my free time.
Appreciate any feedback to improve.
Honestly, wondering how the touch interface will work in this mission. Always thought it will be tough to make sure the touch works as opposed to physical switches and buttons.
eagerly waiting for the launch, though! Wishing luck from India!
What about stress on joints with such recovery method? My dad has had problems with his knee for a long time, he's done lot's of stuff to improve his situation. Whenever he tries lift, he feels great, but the stress affects him after some time. I know the solution you mentioned is what works best for you, but genuinely wondering if the stress acts negatively too.
Makes sense. This is helpful. Thanks, TeMPOral!
This is helpful, thanks!
Ah! Got it. Thanks!
Stupid question: how do they measure speed of the satellite? I mean, on the website they've mentioned the speed of one of their satellite as ~7.6 kmps. Is that the actual speed of the satellite or it's a measure of how much land the the satellite covers per second?
Came here to say this.
UPI is quite revolutionary. Launched in 2016 [0], UPI handles 882.3 million transactions with ~USD 21 billion in transaction value [1], as of July, 2019.
UPI is designed to be a payment utility by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). NPCI is not a governmental organisation but is formed by a collective of 56 Indian Banks including 10 core banks [2].

3 years ago I learned that large insurance companies in India still use COBOL. That fact blew my mind. This fact (Estimates as high as 80% of financial transactions use... COBOL) further blows my mind as I thought only Indian financial institutions are rigid. Clearly not.
Quick Question: Will Google be using this project, once built out, to test all its future "Home" products? Clearly it will have the leverage to do so and will greatly benefit the company over the long term. If so, great strategic thinking.
Indian lenders have been doing this for a long time. They deny loans to borrowers from certain pincodes, provide loans with lower limits or higher interest rates etc.
Wow! Long overdue. I'm not capable enough to contribute technically to the open source projects which I use. This will be a great way for me to make my contribution.
Also, I do believe this is a plus for open source projects that often find it tough to stay afloat because of financial constraints.
Hey! I’m from India and investing in the Fintech sector. Would be good to have a chat. Let me know how I can reach you.
It’s surprising that there has been no legal proceeding initiated against Boeing for this. They traded the lives of hundreds of people in exchange for an important safety feature.
Honestly, I don't understand the implications this has on their investing activities or the mechanism of this structure. I also don't fully understand the regulations around VC Funds and RIA's in USA (I'm from India).
From what I understand though, a16z is trying to breakaway from investing in the limited scope of securities (e.g. equities) of private companies. They want to offer a suite of wealth management services to their Investors in addition to VC investing.
But then, will the Investors pool capital in the Fund and the Fund be advised by the RIA? Or will the RIA directly advise the Investors? The structure isn't too clear to me. Apologies for the ignorance.
"Do you have any pointers to organizations which have a higher hit rate than Gates foundation?"
- It's true they have the capital that spreads far and wide compared to most others. No doubt.
"What are you basing the following on? -> "Their process has been to spray and pray. No active involvement, no process optimisation, no impact metric monitoring etc.""
- Conversations with individuals that work at the foundation.
I have a fundamental issue with the way in which the Gates foundation gets its work done. Sure, there may actually be impact achieved in some of its investments, but in most others, the team does not even know the name of the founders they have invested in. I've interacted with Associates from the Foundation based in London who know the broad strokes of investments they've made in India, for example, but the actual companies, they have no idea. Their process has been to spray and pray. No active involvement, no process optimisation, no impact metric monitoring etc.
Further, the manner in which the foundation functions in India is what makes me cringe when I hear their name. They have unrestricted access to members of parliament in India, they promote Indian government programs e.g. Ayushman Bharat (Health insurance for 500 mn Indians), Aadhaar (digital unique number for all Indians) and they ensure policy changes to suit their funding programs. Their close linkage with the Indian government to further their propoganda is what makes me cringe. Sure enough, do implement some programs its commonplace to liase with Governments, but where's the ethics in that? Where do you draw the line to limit promotions for government projects that fake numbers and are not really having any impact on the ground?
This Annual Letter is just another propaganda piece, as stated by others here.

26 year old here. I want a simple interface that automatically invests in tax-saving schemes and wealth generation schemes. It should do this by understanding my income, my goals, my risk profile and tax policies. It shouldn't ask me what I want to invest in or give me jargon about my portfolio. All I would care about is, how much money is being invested, how much money I save through tax and how much money I could have for a rainy day. If I want to know about my investment profile, then hit me with all the jargon in the world. I asked for it.
Lastly, the most important thing to me, how you (the platform) makes money. This part should be absolutely transparent. I should know exactly how you make money, how much money you have made off of me etc.
I'd be more than willing to pay a subscription fee for such a service or a commission fee for the hard work put in.
Lastly, you may say, well these are readily available. Not really. These services are fragmented (not as one platform), not available, at least in India.
While, to some extent, I agree that we should move back to RSS, shouldn't we think of RSS readers? While most of us in tech could figure it out, the mass of people find it tough to use an RSS Reader.
Maybe in the future, RSS readers could take another form altogether. But solutions out there aren't as easy to use.
Is it just me or has the conversation on this thread gone completely off topic?
I quite like your app. It's way better looking and serves my functional purposes of reading and voting. Of course improvements can be made - it's an iterative process. More power to you.
