How about not using Java? Then you can have low latency.
Average go, rust, c++ and c will outperform amazing java programs, and the former will also be way way more easy to run, troubleshoot, interpret logs from.
Java is usch garbage in every stack.

It is probably because the ram on his laptop is so much faster.
Mind blown, if you need to handle "big" data on the move - the macbook neo is not the right choice. - Who would have guessed that outcome?
Why does it have to be "fully fledged" - not like most people use the advanced features in office.
It's a procurement fallacy to let a corporation dictate what features should be there and not.
Oh no! What will DIY-people use now to make the ugliest floors known to man?
It's more common than you think. Talking from 30 years of experience 20+ of them in very senior roles.
Its fine to have fun with self-hosting.

"Process people can't resist trying to optimize things they superficially comprehend."
I have read many of this types of blog posts about 10x, good engineers and such.
The only thing I have learned during my close to 30 years of professional experience is how incredible rare they are. The really good engineers in IT.
They are so rare so MOST people will never work with even one. That is how rare they are.
And a "Blogger, Writer, Philospher" - have probably never worked with one, and never will. Because they are in a whole different sphere of engineering.
The number of systems is increasing explonentially - the number of truely good engineer is pretty much a constant number.
Using ebpf, perf and flamegraphs would let him find this in a couple of hours. That was not available for him in 2015 tho.
Useless
Varnish is not better in any shape or form than nginx for static content. Varnish has one single usecase, php-sites. - For everything else it will just add a layer of complexity that give no gains. And since varnish is essentially built on apache there is some issues with how it handles connections above about 50k/sec - where it gets complicated to configure, something that nginx does not have.
Seeing how they don't even seem to have a terraform module, I would say this will not grow to anything.
Gaia-X is a place where the hasbeens of the yesteryear can poison any reasonable developent made by saying "We have always done it this way".

Don't get them get away with this, continue to migrate away from it.
This is literally built in, in most modern logging systems with visualization.
