2 parent comments above say that you can use older version of claude code with opus 200k to compare. my guess is that eventually you’ll be able to set it in model settings yourself

Reminds me of the first pair of verses of the Dhammapada (words of the Buddha from ~2500 years ago. … allegedly):

Mind precedes all mental states.

Mind is their chief; they are mind-made.

If with an impure mind a person speaks or acts, suffering follows him like the wheel that follows the foot of the ox.

.

Mind precedes all mental states.

Mind is their chief; they are mind-made.

If with a pure mind a person speaks or acts, happiness follows him like his never-departing shadow.

Thanks, i was about to share the first pair of verses of the Dhammapada (words of the Buddha. … allegedly), which perhaps would have been better than the misattributed quote in my initial comment:

Mind precedes all mental states.

Mind is their chief; they are mind-made.

If with an impure mind a person speaks or acts, suffering follows him like the wheel that follows the foot of the ox.

Not to mention that to overeat to the point of feeling sluggish is possibly a waste of energy and time.

Even worse is when it negatively affects your sleep and body's restorative processes.

Who isn’t eating themselves these days? It’s 2022. Autophagy. We’ve been doing this for millennia, for all time.

Get with the program.

Firstly, I’d like to say congratulations on your success in family and business!

I can only offer some “bio-hacks” (but really they’re key science-backed natural health habits) to master to optimize the mental well-being of humans.

As they say, health is wealth.

First thing: sleep well.

Lack of good quality sleep is known to drive up anxiety, depression, cravings, forgetfulness, irritability, and countless other negative things. It also (perhaps ironically) leaves us feeling empty and constantly unsatisfied.

I’d recommend getting a good sleep tracker (Apple Watch or Oura Ring), and to be diligent about treating your 8ish hours of sleep a night as sacred—though not to become too anal about. It’s important for your energy and spiritual bank account.

Moving on…

Go on a walk every morning in the AM for 30-60 minutes. It’s been demonstrated to have great positive effects on your mood, not to mention your learning ability. I get high from long walks. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I feel that I’m in control of my life when I can be at peace doing “nothing productive” for an hour a day while walking on sunshine, especially before I do any work. On that note, flex your abs when you walk, and walk strong and proud as the godly creator that you are. IMHO if one cannot make time to walk or exercise or otherwise do good things for oneself, then one is enslaved.

Walk periodically throughout the day and look into the distance. For every ~45 minutes of work, we should ideally get up to walk and look into the distance for 5 minutes. Lack of doing this is known to make us feel trapped and can lead to feelings of depression.

Diet is also very important. I won’t spend too much time talking about this, but the Whole30 diet plan is recommended to try out alongside a proper sleep and exercise routine to optimize your mood and cognitive function. Try it for 30 days and see for yourself!

Otherwise minimize excess carbs, processed foods, and foods made with industrial vegetable oils.

Finally…

As others have mentioned, find a good therapist.

Delegate and outsource as much as you can. Your time is infinitely more precious than the extra money that you make.

All the best.

Feel free to reach out.

Agreed. In that case, maybe we just have to make sure to schedule dedicated time for HN usage. Probably better for us to keep things like this manual :-).

Also, it gives us time to edit/delete our comments like a ninja!

Perhaps, in the spirit of "hacker" "news", one could write a script to check for replies and then notify us via email or something.

You could even possibly add in functionality to respond via email...

5) this result: https://brave.com/brave-tops-browser-first-run-network-traff... . While it was from 2019 so needs to be updated, but upon first-run I was shocked at the results for FF here.

The article states: "Firefox remains one of the chattiest browsers during a first run. At 117 requests, it lead the pack with individual requests. It should be noted, however, that this isn’t the browser itself making all of these calls, but another page that is present during startup."

So it seems that the initial page is the thing making most of the network calls, and not the browser itself. Wouldn't this mean that we can simply disable the wi-fi/internet temporarily to load the browser initially, closing unnecessary tabs, and customizing it as we needed?

In general, this seems like a good practice for opening up apps in general, even though it's a minor inconvenience and we theoretically shouldn't have to do this. Anyway, I don't mind the telemetry if it will help and not be used against us.

Webpack 5 6 years ago

If one is in the majority and is suffering, then there is an opportunity to examine what one is doing, not to mention the environment.

After working at small shops managing frontends with 1-2 other people and then moving to frontends managed by larger numbers and divisions, especially in a culture of moving quickly, things can get hairy quite fast.

Even so, it helps to make a habit of revisiting things from first principles and to also assume the beginner’s mind, collectively, to work towards more refined, elegant, simpler systems/modules based on lessons of the past.

Speaking of “normals”... it used to be normal for most people to be undernourished. Now, the normal is that the majority of people in many developed countries are overfed. And overstimulated.

Same with the code we write.

Overfed. Overstimulated.

The dangers of prosperity and excess!

But at least we have the opportunity to focus and sharpen our realities.

... Anyway, back to Webpack. Webpack is great. It is one such system that went through a lot of growing pains and complexities to get used to, not to mentioned subpar documentation in the early days, but it has evolved gracefully and is quite elegant, and has been for a few years now!

Read the docs, people!

And modern refined tools like Vue CLI, create-react-app, Next.js, and now Vite can take care of most of the “boring” frontend configuration!

No one really needs to struggle with Webpack anymore.

Not too late. Professional experience in anything technical/analytical/complex would keep your mind adaptive enough to deal with computer systems and work effectively with others.

On that note, programmers used to consist of mathematicians, engineers, and scientists, until there was a growing shortage of programmers, at which point project managers, accountants, and other comparable professionals trained to become programmers. [1]

Many people, especially those not used to receiving and handling feedback, can misinterpret feedback as petty criticism or even as a personal attack. Being kind may help reassure the recipient of the feedback that we're actually trying to help them rather than hurt them.

I’m not so sure that something like entrepreneurship is pure and simple. There’s more to entrepreneurship than making money. It requires a balanced set of things, as does being an engineer or an artist.

But if you’re selling something, at least you’re creating something that’s (possibly) valuable such that people are willing to pay for.

In the end, you’re creating something. Whether it’s good or bad is generally subjective. But hopefully it’s worth it.

Code doesn’t necessarily have to be confidential. “Secret recipe” algorithms, maybe.

It’s about trade-offs. If you must have “trade secrets” amongst your code, perhaps you can keep that code available only to whom you trust will follow your wishes with it, and have separate repos to share wherein you do not care as much about collaborators “stealing” the code.

As soon as you let someone into your codebase, almost anything can happen, right?

There are cases where it would make sense to sacrifice risks related to code-copying in order to have faster/better development.

Also, what’s stopping anyone working at ANY company from taking the company code and doing whatever they want?

Code is seldom everything.
