I just saw the video, looks awesome. I have experience working on conferencing products and UberConference looks pretty sleek. Some of the pain points that they mention in the video are real. There are plenty of conference applications/products to choose from and not sure how UberConference is going to standout. Also some of the features supported by UberConfernce can be added to the existing conference application with some effort. Its not impossible to add these features as mentioned by craig in the video. Its a crowded market with big potential. All that said, Wish these guys great success.

Great Article. I have been playing around with both PhoneGap and Titanium. Definitely there is no apple to apple comparison between these products. Both of them serve different purpose though similar in language and technology. Now that PhoneGap( Apache Cordova) is part of Adobe, not sure about the long term usage with respect to licensing etc.

Excellent! This is exactly what I was looking for. Some comments: a) Search for podcast (I didn’t see a search window) b) Iam currently using it on my Iphone. The site has more of a desktop browser feel. Can you make it more mobile friendly? With HTML5, CSS3 and some JS framework, lot more could be accomplished on the mobile side.

Iam trying to open from my Macbook pro and the safari browser keeps crashing. Is there a issue with safari?

Just Curious, Can you launch apps while working fulltime for a company? Is there any legal issue with this approach.

I think it shows the passion for the product regardless of what level you get into. The net impact is what we see in iPhone,iPod,iPad etc. It could be argued either way, but the point is that the record speaks for itself. So when u see a product class apart from other competing product, some of these small gestures set things apart.

Skype already has its own infrastructure to support Voice and SMS. Iam pretty sure twilio will be out of the picture the moment the deals is done.

Its 7000+ employees not 3000+.

Its makes more sense for Facebook to buy Skype instead of Google. Here are some of my points.( snippets from my article).

•Enhance their messaging platform with support for Voice and Video powered by Skype. Off course Facebook can develop its own Voice and Video infrastructure. Too me it’s a stretch. Instead by buying Skype they get instant access to VoIP/SMS/Video features •Support Voice/Video will boost the messaging platform, which doesn’t seem to have gained much traction •With Skype Acquisition they also get QIK Live streaming capabilities. That’s an added plus •Instant Access to more than 500 million users. The chances of Skype users having Facebook account are high. There might be an overlap •Facebook can really become a global operator providing Voice/SMS/Video/IM communication to all its users. Off course PSTN access will still be short coming, a partnership with one of the operator can offset this shortcoming •A Facebook phone becomes a reality. Most of the operators are moving towards 4G/LTE, it’s a matter of time that all Voice calls will be carried via IP network. With a partnership with one of the access network, Facebook’s ambitious phone becomes a reality. So constant monthly revenue for basic phone service becomes a reality. Voila! •Patronize Innovation by opening up the Skype platform for developers (Telco 2.0 Platform). Something similar to Twilio, Voxeo etc •Who said Facebook is only for Consumer market, with Skype acquisition they can venture into Enterprise market and become a threat to some of the incumbent Video/VoIP provider like Avaya, Cisco etc •According to CDC Straw Poll 75% of the companies will adopt, Video Conferencing by 2012. Skype already supports consumer video conferencing which can be extended /enhanced for enterprise •Voice conferencing is another big Enterprise feature. So armed with these powerful features, facebook can look beyond consumer market •It makes sense to have different revenue stream instead of relying only on advertisements •Everybody wants a piece of Facebooks social graph including operators. T-Mobiles recently launched Bobsled , a one touch calling within facebook. In fact Facebook can do a better job than Third Party service providers.

I agree with the article. I have been working out for years and still got back problems. Was diagnosed with mild herniated disk. Reason- Bad posture and sitting for long hours. Also the chair that we use to sit plays a big role.

Its not going to kill the SMS. However, its going to impact operators revenue. SMS has been the cash cow to operators for a longtime now. The cost for sending/receiving SMS is almost zero except for the network maintenance cost. So this will definitely impact operators revenue. Mobile VoIP didn't kill circuit switch calls, but did dent operators voice revenue especially international calls.

Hacker news is part of my daily diet and i have to admit that PG is Rock star. Though the amount of money he funds to YC startups is minuscule, the end result is unbelievable. I have been in the startup industry for more than a decade and to me it seems like the YC funding is more like paid mentoring.

I totally agree with you on this. Its been remarkable how Mark is handling one of the best companies on planted today. I have been working in startups for more then a decade, and i know how difficult it is to run the show with ups and downs almost everyday. Hope Mark will write a book about how he managed the show.

It takes more than 10 years to get GC. It depends on which category( EB1,EB2 or EB3) you fall into. Many big companies file only EB3 and it takes more than 10 years.
