Cognism, a data provider in the UK is caught charging for fake data, not adhering to the GDPR and spamming people.

This is so cool – glad to see talented programmers come up with great ideas again and again when developing emulators.

In what way? Adhering to the regulations are quite simple and cheap. You just need your users consent to use their data and take measures to protect it. If you don’t have their consent or protect the data you’re doing it wrong - even before the GDPR came into action.

Absolutely terrible update; can no longer see what repos are private, nor are they sorted in order of "last updated". Very bad user experience and messed up my workflow somewhat (before I knew that the repo on top was the last one I pushed to to quickly make a PR or the like)

Got the mail this morning (Europe) and my first thought was "WTF"? Then "How the hell do I migrate all my customers"?

I've used Mandrill for transactional mails for 4-5 years now. And always when I've had a project that requires some kind of e-mail notifications, password resets etc. I've always recommended Mandrill to my customers.

So here I am, running and handling 8+ Mandrill accounts (many customers requires exclusive access to account, have one for personal projects etc. ). A few of them in the free tier, most of them payed.

These changes will involve a whole lot of headache for me, and will sadly affect a few of my customers too.

Firstly; from around $40/month as our e-mail costs are today; to more than a total of $240/month. Not the end of the world in itself, but:

Secondly: NOT A SINGLE ONE of my customers, or me, want or have any use of MailChimp. They are two very different services with two very different purposes. Now I will have walk through with my customers on how they set up a Mailchimp account, explain to them why they have to do this and merge the account with their Mandrill one, explain to them "Oh, no – this is just a $10/month service that you don't need, or want, but have to signup to to enable those password reset emails or yours".

Oh man... Of course I will change service in most of these cases, but that's also a pain, have to get in touch with the customers IT-departments to change DNS-settings, verify senders and all that – not a great start to this day...

The whole idea is what we in Sweden call "hål i huvudet"; "Hole in the head" (as in missing a brain, not shooting someone).

Nobody can give you much more advice than to collect all your papers/email/documents regarding this and discuss it with a lawyer.

I know your upset, and want to hit them hard – but outing them probably won't do much good in the long run.

Actually, in both Europe and North America there is really good teams and players who are not in the NHL and the highest leagues in Europe.

For example, in Swedens Division 1 (third highest league), players can get a full time salary for playing hockey – but of course an agent won't help them because they get a provision on player salaries, and they are not interested if the salaries are too low.

So when a contract expires for a Division 1 player, they usually end up in a situation where their only chance to land a new club is through contacts, and that usually means in the same country and/or region. But there is a huge demand for European players in North America, and NA-players in Europe.

So far we have around 200 players, and two dozen clubs. 50% Sweden, 25% US, 15% Canada and the rest various other European countries.

I've seen this idea before, and I really do like it. However, I managed to close my window (had incognito mode), and now I will never be able to retrieve my predictions. No big deal perhaps – but still annoying.

My bad – perhaps it was Engineyard? I know that there was one more service that I've tried besides PagodaBox on which you were "forced" to use GitHub to deploy code.

Well, you could. But you do get other features such easy management of env. variables, scheduling, New Relic monitoring and network handling.

Even if you are just running 2 sites, I really do think this is a great value for money ($10). If they only (as I wrote in my other comment) allowed for alternative ways to push your code.

Really easy and powerful tool – BUT (this is a big one), why lock someone in with GitHub? Sure, GitHub is great. But what if I use BitBucket? Or even my own solution for my private projects?

This has killed many other services before for me, Pagoda Box (if I recall correctly) also forced someone to use GitHub, so did Appfog (or PHPfog rather).

I like Fortrabbits solution, where you at least can push your own code.

Just for the sake of argument – any reason why not PHP?

It used to be the same way in Sweden, all educations were free even for all foreigners. The hope was that once the foreigners took their exam they would stay in the country.

However, it didn't pan out too well – now foreigners from non-EU countries have to pay around (varies somewhat at the different universities) 9000USD per semester.

Looks really awesome – however, as some other people have already said – please make a build for a trial .dmg that you can download directly from your webside (Coda, Versions and other does this) – just so that we can try if it fits into our workflow without puting out $10 up front.

The price seems alright, if it works like intended though.

However, I feel like it needs a bit more until I try it out. Right now it would be a compromise between saving some hours in a few areas, and use those hours to learn Userapp and integrate it.

Yes, I think so. It isn't something for me to get rich on – but more like something that I can show "I made this, I had this clever idea" while (hopefully) earning a small income on the side.

When deployed the app will run quite cheaply too – so I', not afraid of losing huge amounts of money on the project.

Really nice and well done. However, there are multiple services like this – it would be cool if there would be a cap on how much you demand for a domain, like $200 or something. That way this really would be the place to load of domains and give them to someone who might have more use of them than me.

Those complaining that this makes squatting easy – not true. I myself have collected 30-40 domains over the years for projects that I want/will/should build – but never have built... I keep renewing the domains "just in case", but if I could list them for $50 to $200 each and know that someone else will use them for a good purpose, I would.
