it is interesting how websites will need to compute the user-friendly url themselves from the punycode as can be seen on the displayed url on the HN UI
Where in the USA is Julian Assange?
Thanks. It was not very clear by design. I edited to explain better the context without giving much information away.
What are you talking about? I was the founder/CEO.
"out-of-court settlement", let's say, for when rule of law does not exist.
They thought I would be just another brazilian and join their corporate corruption scheme against a major hospital here in southern brazil.
The main guy, a PhD in Physics from a top university in europe (but a retard IRL), will be cleaning sewers until death comes.
True story.
edit: i was the founder and they were clients in a bootstrapping program involving a top 10 tech giant and a hospital
I will tell you what you can't do in those situations
do not copy the DOI (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-018-0298-5)
do not go to sci-hub (https://sci-hub.tw)
and finally do not paste the DOI there to get the article
it is like moonwalk but more autistic /s
Flat earth theory is all about humans not being able to do a specific 2d to 3d mapping using the natural brain circuitry/architecture/pathway we gained from evolution for this operation because the earth is too big for our brains/senses as an object viewed from nearby (like from a plane in the atmosphere) and we never encountered something with such measures and relationships (like a circular path that becomes linear to our senses) in the natural world we evolved. Some of us know the earth is not flat because we developed other ways (other brain circuitry) to do the mapping: some think it terms of pure geometry, some scale down earth to a ball and compare our senses to it, some think in terms of planetary movements, some use the moon to help with the mapping from our vision, etc.
Washington Post linked to a reddit thread with comments bashing the CEO. The CEO did not like the world seeing him bashed by his own community and decided to impersonate the users to make them seem attacking the moderators of /r/The_Donald.

The CEO crossed the line because he thought he could get away from any liability for doing it.This is the aeromovel that integrates our metropolitan train to the airport here in the brazilian south: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZKIp28thFE
Although it has been a project for more than 30 years, it is something locals are really proud. The same local company implemented both projects (the brazilian one and this in Jarkata).
After some reading [1] I found out that electrophilic ketones are better than valproic acid as histone deacetylase inhibitors. Maybe this is the source of the enhanced state-of-mind that people on a keto diet [2] report (me currently, reporting in).

I enter ketosis for roughly a month or less every half a year or so. The main selling point for me is lowering body fat from my normal bulking diet that consists of 2-4 liters of milk per day.
But every time it surprises me as I end up able to stay focused for hours without interruption. It does not produce any kind of magic cognitive power but the simple fact that there is no preemptive signal going on my brain telling me to stop whatever I'm doing to eat something makes me really productive.
Out of ketosis I can get a similar effect by drinking some brands of energetic beverages but it only works for a limited amount of time and don't stack up very well: if I drink too much caffeine I end up anxious.
Yes but not for real, it revolves around the idea of making hackers the most feared bunch of people.
More than once: even after knowing the full title from a previous read but glancing and reading it as "Hitler" anyway multiple times. I think it's a result from the uppercase first letter on each word: it's common to read Hitler with uppercase h but not Hitters with uppercase h. And as word recognition is a function of the peripheral letters of the word it gives a cognitive mishap.
Edit: This could very well be a textbook example on why not use uppercase first letters when not needed on UIs.
Create a lending system without requiring collateral from the borrower using this for risk mitigation on the lending side and you will conquer the world.
This theory makes the need to logout/sleep even more puzzling: if the need to logout is not attached to the robot then why did it biologically evolve on the robot in the first place?
So why do we dream "programming"? I'm sure many others here too suffer from problem-solving in their sleep.
Maybe it's just refactoring and caching, and we are full biological systems with no hidden variables in the macroscale.
Too bad you got downvoted for exposing this anecdote. Not everyone views it like that (sadly).
Brazil, the same.
This article is spot on. There is an important detail that sounds like conspiracy theory and that bothers me as a brazilian: much of the extent of the economical crisis was orchestrated with propaganda by sectors of our society engulfed in corruption charges (from briberies to tax evasion) after the global drop in commodities prices and suddenly investments halted by market fear and a real crisis took place (and then a "market-friendly" politician took power to "reinstate growth", conveniently, and slowed down the anti-corruption drive).
There was a common headline at the time in newspapers: "apesar da crise", meaning "even though in a crisis", followed by the report of a new market/business sector record in profits.
I always saw my country as a place free of the type of conspiracy that vultures around US politics by pure incompetence of our own politicians to plan and execute things like that but the recent events gave me a reality check.
In my mind, adaptability is more important than immutability.
Important for what? Is there adaptability without mutability?
Programmers know that if you implement something with the premise of immutability then if mutability occurs the state of your application changes arbitrarily.
Mutability is good for the ones who can rely on an existing provider of centralized governance to make decisions that benefit them. For everyone else it's just plain corruption.
Ethereum pivoted from decentralized governance to centralized governance across borders. They are now solving different problems and I hope they see it.
Or you could use a pre-trained list like the ones from Google [1]. If not you probably solved an open problem in the area and publishing it would help us not to lose time trying to solve it again.

Does anyone know good resources/research about generating latent vector representations with iterative processes using numerical analysis algorithms and not neural networks?
The black-box effect on word2vec and similars puts back some applications like generalizing linguistics methods to bioinformatics.

We are watching the killer app for decentralization of governance getting centralized governance because the stakeholders made bad investments.
This is hard-tech sitcom.
Nope. There is a thing called Terms of Service [1] that is in place for that very reason.
Wikipedia to the rescue (give or take): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_DAO_(organization)
Correct. As per page 9 the most of the budget allocated for the project comes from wikimedia themselves, totaling 2,445,873.00 USD in for the fiscal year 2015-2016.
