This! I'm Danish and everything in the government is Microsoft. USA is trying to make a hostile takeover of Greenland, a part of the Danish Kingdom, and meanwhile the parliament is migrating to Azure. I hope someone in the government wakes up soon before it's too late.

We recently moved two companies from AWS to Scaleway which is the closest to AWS you find in EU AFAIK. It's like AWS 5-10 years ago, eg much fewer managed services and you don't have as much tooling, but it works great and it is also cheaper. You do get managed kubernetes, Postgres and Redis plug and play though.

I have seen promotion of this idea multiple times but every time I read about it I fail to understand the gains.

I’m based in Denmark and have incorporated multiple companies. It is very easy and digital and costs very little, even if you get a lawyer to do it for you.

Maybe the issue is a few member states that are behind on digitalization?

In my experience EU is better at setting the guidelines and then the member states can implement the details themselves. When they try to push things it becomes bureaucratic - just look at the cookie law and GDPR. Both great ideas but overly complicated.

There is no such thing as unlimited. Everything is subject to fair use and it seems they are now communicating those limits clearly.

I’m not saying VS Code is trash but I think it’s closer to a text editor than an IDE. I even use it for some things non python but I remain curious to the fact why people use it for python.

It might not be tied to VS Code but the title clearly says “New […] IDE experience for…” which is why I commented. I had hoped to see something for PyCharm or even a new IDE.

I lost all interest when I saw VS Code. I don’t get why people consider this a suitable IDE for python when you can have a real IDE like PyCharm.

I have met so many people obsessed with building things on top of the blockchain and when you ask them what it is they need it is essentially a database and they don’t want it to be public. Fortunately the recent years this has been a decreasing trend. Only now a days the requests are to replace developers with 10x AI agents.

I own both Mercedes and Skoda (owned by VW) and I feel like both companies are headed in an extremely bad direction. The other day I saw that now Mercedes wants to charge me 200-300 USD/year for navigation and the ability to remotely lock your door.

The fact is they let you pay $100k for a car and then they behave like Facebook and other consumer platforms where you pay with your data and can buy add-ons.

You can't combine the two. In this case you paid for your car, so it's yours and they are hands-off unless you ask them for something. Also, the car should not randomly stop working after three years and ask you for extra money.

Unfortunately, I don't have any faith in Tesla either. While in front of innovation surely they are behind moral. If I were to buy a car today, I'm not sure where to look.

In general, and this applies to many language communities, you are encouraged to include all kind of garbage dependencies into your project.

Adding dependencies should be something you consider carefully. Every line of code has a maintenance cost - a dependency has it times 1000. Effectively you are adding technical debt in many cases.

For instance I just developed a new react app with just react and react-router. My colleagues suggested react-query but why add this when you can do all you need with a few lines of code and fetch?

I’m a beginner on piano/keyboard - been playing daily for a couple of years and I think this would be a great app for me to push myself. However, I mostly play kids songs when my kids are going to sleep and they are mostly Danish.

Would love to see a way to import sheets from my already purchased books.

As a long time Apple customer I couldn’t care less.

This is mainly to satisfy governments who are looking into Apples dominant position in the market. I doubt this was a big request from the apple community.

It’s like the new possibility to use non apple app stores. It’s mainly coming from people who don’t like Apple and use Android anyway.

We recently moved an old page from plain html and everything generates by the backend to react and we had a drop down take several seconds to open with a thousand or so items in it. Was like 100ms to open the entire page before.

It was suggested to only display the first 100 items and let the user type in 3 characters until it started rendering.

Unfortunately this is the reality for many these days.

Of course instead we just fixed the shitty react code and it rendered instantly.

I recently moved to the country side on a former farm with around 3 acres/15k sqm of "garden" around the house.

It's around 30 minutes away from my old apartment in Denmark's 2nd biggest town and around 15 minutes from my parents.

I live there with my girlfriend and our 1 year old son. We are very happy with it, but it comes with some downsides.

It's not really cheaper to live here. Our rent is much lower, but we need two cars. The house is much bigger than an apartment that would have fit us, so heating and electricity is much more expensive. There is no district heating, so we have a furnace that we need to feed wood pellets, which is a major pain. We're considering earth heating or something similar, again, additional expenses.

I bought a tractor and a mini loader which is use every week, for various maintenance jobs on the house and garden. This is also a significant extra cost, but it would really not be comfortable without it.

We wanted too have animals but we abandoned the idea due to how much work there is just maintaining the buildings and garden + the kid :-)

We love the summers where we get to hang around in our outside areas, but the winters (nov-march) can hard. You look outside the window and it's all just completely dark.

I'm planning on buying a small field and trying to grow some vegetables. We already have an area in the garden, but I want to experiment with actual farming with my tractor :) Considering some grains so I can make flour and beer :)

I learned so much about electricity, building stuff, gardening etc. which makes every day exciting. Maybe it will eventually not be fun anymore, but we're having a good time for now.

I miss the restaurants and take-away from the city, but that's it. We have the friendliest neighbours, although we do not hang out with them, but they are always very nice if you meet them on our small road or ask them for a favour.

I have an EQB and I totally agree. I insisted on getting CarPlay but I used it once and I don’t see any need for it. Much happier with MBUX. However, this new Android based OS isn’t good news and I’m not sure I would want to get a new car with an Android based OS in it.
