macOS has Screen Sharing.app that works wonderfully across 8000 miles when screen sharing Mac to Mac.

Mac to Windows is easy with RDP.

But sharing a screen, Linux to Mac or vice versa... I wish you all the best. It's wild to me too.

I think it depends where you are in your career. Is it worth it for you to shell out your money for a cert? Maybe. I know earlier in my career a Red Hat cert opened doors for me (but my employer paid for it to show team competencies). But, now it would be to prove a point or something like beta testing it.

I have a desk with a Linux rig right behind me. I use VSCode remote environments most of the time when building containers (which runs over ssh). You could do this with a VM locally too.

I look at it from the deployment solution backwards. I’ve run some pretty intense (for a blog) CI/CD pipelines in the past. But now there are Netlify, Vercel, and others that support a few static site generators. I use Netlify (paying customer) for all my sites now and my SSG of choice is Hugo because it is a single binary that cranks out a full blown static site in less than a second.

You can call a dockerfile whatever you want. You'll need to specify the filename at build. But, the name really doesn't matter. You can call it umptysquat.txt and it'll build you a container.

In the wild, I've seen (case insensitive) Dockerfile (obvs), Containerfile, and Container.

Calling it a cult after growing up in one is a bit insulting. But, yes, I don't run much on my personal K8s clusters. But, I've lost count of how many problems Kubernetes has solved for folks I've worked with. It might not solve the simplicity use cases but, that's not the intended design of the tool to begin with.

I've started kicking the tires on DigitalOcean's Kubernetes offering. Surprisingly, it's the one I feel most comfortable with. They've made getting the cluster up and running then getting out of your way a thing and I appreciate it. It's Kubernetes without the weird cloud intracacies that make them well clouds. It's in limited preview but, if I'm kicking tires on it it can't be too far from GA. Also, in talking with some of the team members I appreciate their approach and challenges.
