I stopped playing Minecraft years ago, just before endermen were added. I recently had a go at it 6 months ago, and I couldn't get into it. In my mind Minecraft lost its charm of brutal simplicity since MS took over. The spells, the huge diversity of new items its just lost on me.
But I like the way these FOSS clones look, maybe I'll give it a shot later.
Also, screw MS. I purchased Minecraft 4 times for friends to borrow, I don't want an MS account tied to each one, nor do I have time for that hassel.
Honestly the Windows UI is kinda annoying, and it did effect my performance until I recently ditched it for linux w/ i3 as the WM... I want something straightforward and to the point. The windows UI peaked at XP, everything else has been inferior.
This is the umpteenth article I've seen on HN about the topic. It's getting repetitive. Maybe they are using ChatGTP for these articles!
Seriously tho, I'll believe it when I see it. The few times I used ChatGTP for code, it was extremely mediocre, unless I held its hand though every block of code. So what it boils down to, natural language has become a "programming language". Untill we get general purpose AI that can understand requirements/limitations, read AND write code, make sensible tests, anticipate security threats, maintain code and present results to stakeholders all on consumer HW, "coders" aren't going anywhere.
Edit: After reading the article, the first few paragraphs of which are basically an advert for OpenAI, the Author seems to push an image of the "arrogant" unable to see the potential of AI. This just some weird marketing material aimed at execs looking to bolster future software resources.
In short, how good is ChatGTP at chess? A well structured, yet very complex game. Good, but not great, and I feel we will see the same with Code
Many people here are pointing out "Why would Microsoft do this to their customer base?"
Well it's because they can, and people are not going to do anything about it. Most people don't know about or cant reinstall the OS. So the publics real decision is between an expensive MacBook, or well Windows. To make things worse most people are so used to ads, tracking and other bullshit, this is just par for the course... white noise.
If you really want a change, your going to have to get the major OEMs to start distributing Linux on mass, but you bet that if that ever took off there would be trackers on their distros in a heartbeat.
I am already served that google "Discover" trash on Android Chrome. I switched to Firefox mobile for that reason.
At least it is probably not one of those dumb MS tabloid ads "Bill Gates hates this one weird trick!"
Jokes aside, that would make me switch to Debian immediately.
What is the motd?
Its definitely neat, but not sure how practical it is against traditional pressure/vacuum?
The Oil Industry has a big lead in this tech, but maybe this would be useful in domestic applications like drainage?
And? The developers of Haskell owe us nothing. I don't see the point of your complaint. If the tool doesn't fit the bill, don't use it.
IMO Haskell is more of a dream project of having a highly optimizable and flexible complier. Its fun to write, great when it works (well), but it's not the workhorse of C and Python.
What? no. On the flip side what if their company is convulsing at the possibility of being offline for a few days due to the issue, updating a HN post would be their lowest priority untill they find a solution. Give them a break, OP owes us nothing.
It's not OK to be like "HN I had a bad experience...
That is rather aggressive?? Maybe thry live in another time zone and are asleep, or have other obligations like school pickup. Given them at least 24 hours to respond. sheesh...
No formal diagnosis here, beyond doctor's suggesting ADHD for my poor grades in elementary school.
I use Nicorette at work when I really need to focus, and I try to keep a consistent sleep schedule.
Very nice! It reminds me of my old childhood favourite Erupt3. Although this seems much easier to use.

Common man, you started your comment well, but you end up just discrediting yourself with your meme text at the end.
This site is for dialogue not flinging shit.
I feel that is kind of what we are seeing on mass in other sectors... quiet quitting, and the the like.
People realized they don't have time for bullshit.
in the country I was petrified I'd offend people.
How so? I generally feel Dutch people are pretty patient.
I think you are confusing the purpose and context of BIPOC. BIPOC is a broad and useful term used to discuss social topics that effect that group of people, that is also why it is an acronym, it's a broad classifier. I don't think anyone would ever identify as such directly.
For example, if we sat down and discussed my race, and you summarized it as just "Asian" that would be dismissive, there is much more detail to my identity. But using "Asian" to discuss issues regarding the larger demographic, like health matters and employment is probably prefectly fine, and more efficient that listing each ethicity individualy. Doing so would be ineffective and exhausting.
If you really believe using general terms such as BIPOC is inappropriate, then stop using "whites" in your language. Who are these whites? Sweedes? British? Germans?...
Not really, support for software, especially games are discontinued publicly all the time.
The real rule is not pissing off your customer base by taking important services offline while they still use that particular product. Doing so would be a PR blunder, and obviously effect sales of future products.
French, PoC was originally a French term long ago, and was popularized again by MLK under a different context.
But beyond the history, which is interesting dont get me wrong, this is a moving goalpost. Once BIPOC becomes unacceptable, soon will its successor. All that matters is intent, I do not think _anyone_ here had the intent of disparaging any particular race, and to prejudicially think someone is using it that way counterproductive and regressive.
This isn't your form to rule.
Occam's razor. I think the explanation for this treatment is much simpler, investment. Lots of these mainstream media corps probably have some interest in dammage control in crypto's price.. or they were being persuaded to be gentle by influential contacts in finance with intrest in stability. For instance, we know now Black Rock had a very significant stake in FTX. Its not totally crazy to think they might have reached out to Bloomberg or the Financial Times to keep the pressure off SBF.
Consider the alternative where the media "slammed" SBF on the daily, it would further discredit crypto and lead to a faster decline in value, therefore it would be harder for financial institutions to efficiently devest from crypto without significant losses.
Sorry, typed this on my phone.
Explain? This isn't super helpful tot the discussion if you disagree without supporting your claim. Feels kinda Reddity.
Im not on anyone's side, why would you assume that? Im just pointing out something that is factually incorrect.
The US is deeply Christian as is Zambia.
Statisticaly no, the US is only 63% Christian, while Zambia is over 95%. Further I would argue that the actual american figure is lower due to Christianity's persistent cultural foothold in the country. If you count the number of people going to church weekly that figure is going to be much lower.
Allowing smoking of marijuana wherever smoking of nicotine is allowed seems “only fair.”
I agree, in either tobacco or Marijuana, your not going to accidentally get high just existing in a smoking area. Marijuana however smells gross from a distance, I would be polite where you light up. Thats just common sense.
I wouldn’t want to be driving on the road with someone after they smoked their very first cigarette. I remember...
As someone who had regularly done both, this is very wrong. First time smoking tobacco, yes I'd never want to drive in that state, but nicotine I would argue helps me pay attention, especially when driving for hours in a straight line. (Guess where I live) Marijuana however impaired me every time, and similar to alcohol I would never drive in that state.
Read the room, do you think that is going to fly here?
I see this opinion so frequently it is a meme, saying that there is some kind of cultural symmetry, everything is relativly equal from opposing perspectives, and that the west holds a superiority complex...
Its a fun thought, but it simply is not true. Due to lots of luck, time, death, war and famine western society has developed to be one of the most comfortable, liberal and happiest in the world. This is something to protected, fosterd and spread.
Define problematic...
This question alone is problematic because it lacks context, socially problematisch? Morally problematic?
They should have called it "euTube", so much wasted potential.
Whos howling? There is only one sub comments here.
In many ways HN is worse than Reddit because comments get flagged way too easily.
Ive never had that problem, but this is a tech and entrepreneurship forum and not a general form.
That’s what downvotes are for
If you get enough karma here you can down vote, 500 iirc. They do this so you can't create fake accounts to downvote people multiple times.
