When "researching cannabis", using just pure thc may not be optimal because cbd, cbn, and other chemicals produce a different kind of high and, if I recall correctly, especially cbd counters some of the most negative effects of thc, etc.

Similarily, people might be worrying about oversimplifying mushrooms to just psilocybin because mushrooms have more than one chemical in them and they might work in a synergistic way as well.

I don't have the answer to these questions: who benefits from people staying in usa illegally and why? Why are (some) people illegally staying in usa being 'weaponized' as a political tool? As long as we have borders and nations, why shouldn't a country decide who gets in and why?

Dignity 7 years ago

Baselessly prejudiced discrimination is obviously bad, but whites in the west had a head start of hundreds of years of amassing wealth and power. That's how the game mostly works.

We're born, we do the work and we die. We're not entitled to anything.

The only solution is to replace the class system with something that provides unconditional dignity for all.

Basic income, let's go!?

The 'narrative' on the international stage often times seems to be might is right. Cute mythological stories hardly change that.

Almost everything we appear to hold so dear and immutable or self evident seems kinda arbitrary depending on how far back you go and whether you consider yourself part of this team or that.

Nationalism or tribalism is a whole lot of make believe, is what I'm saying.

How do you qualify what constitutes a part of the country though? A whole lot of land changing hands and being conquered by force happened throughout the world's history.

I wonder how much of that unity sentiment is/was constructed and pushed on by leadership due to the area around current China being littered with competing kingdoms and a lot of internal strife and disarray throughout its history, not just the past 100 years.

In Chinese cinema, or at least some films, the theme of unity and to some extent 'glorious leadership' seems to be prevalent. Just came to mind that even in some Jet Li films (or equivalent) set in more ancient times you could probably be faced with some monologues or statements to that tune and at least I was a bit taken aback by how blatant it felt.

I can only go by what he and other people close to him say but he says he used to do plenty acid and been to retreats in asia for months and months (cumulatively) during his early life and seems to be good pals with people like Joseph Goldstein (who studied under asian teachers in 60s/70s). He has probably experienced all kinds of stuff.

Point being, if you get (at least some of) what there is to get then does it matter where your body was born or what it looks like? Is it a bad thing that western born people are bringing this (buddhist/hindu/jain) thought to the west?

I would revise your statement that there are the monastics who dedicate their lives to this, the lay people who practice and the commoditized 'yoga' as exercise/stretching folk/peddlers who are far removed from its spiritual components.

I'm interested in hearing more about about being a charlatan with the meditation app especially considering, as far as I remember, you can get it for free by just asking.

I wonder how legislating such low thc content affects the viability of (industrial) hemp because I seem to recall reading that for example higher thc may help protect the plant against pests and possibly affect other qualities of the product as well as having synergistic or other medical qualities when combined with cbd and other cannabinoids in oil or other forms.

Are we gimping the potential of hemp by clinging to the war on drugs reefer madness mentality?

Coffee and herbal teas may not be as beneficial during fasting, because as you said, they may be more "substantial".

I was watching a compilation clip about intermittent fasting [0] recently. According to Dr. Rhonda Patrick, coffee and other drinks than just plain water (and maybe vitamins and supplements as well?) break the fast by starting up some metabolic enzymes [1][2].

I guess there goes my round the clock tea gulping. :|

I wish they offered sensible guaranteed minimum bandwidth and didn't oversubscribe their links too much and included good QOS/traffic shaping with maybe prioritizing game traffic (or udp) for lower latency gaming.

I'd be more than happy getting say a guaranteed 5 MB/s (~50 mbps) steady with super low latency on the cheap everywhere on the earth. I'm currently getting about 1-2 MB/s on 4G mobile internets for ~25 eur a month but at least it's _real_ unlimited.

My guess is he's trying to say plenty high skilled gamers are fit or even muscular. If you're in good physical shape that will show in your performance because especially first person shooters require a lot of twitch aim and good reactions as well as mental toughness, clarity, ability to handle pressure, etc.

Is there some legit criticism on him and provable dishonesty? I don't know much but I seem to recall him publishing stories uncovering and/or reporting on what could be viewed as problematic or even embarrassing things about japanese culture.

I agree, having visited a couple bigger libraries in a big city many times and there's such uncontested unruliness going on there every time - people talking loud on their phones, people shouting, listening to music on their phone speaker, large groups in communal spaces playing games or hanging out making constant noise.

Granted, these libraries had dedicated study or reading spaces but I guess I prefer the more traditional outlook of a library and it'd be nice if quiet was strictly enforced in libraries and they were not made into some hybrid public communal spaces with books, research and studying as an afterthought but that's just me.

The finnish ubi thing was a joke because it's not nation wide and the amount paid is marginal. I don't see how you can glean any relevant info from that. Wonder what the ramifications are going to be if you're going to see stories of failures connected to not-so-good UBI studies and how they're going to be played by politicians or people against UBI?

Most people have no clue as to what they want out of life. Giving people free money will only make things worse since now they lose the incentive to even try. At least when you have a job you work towards completing someone else's goal. With a basic income, you have no defined goal and you lose the stress of having to find one. [...] it needs to be done in a way that will not destroy people's incentive to help society.

This part seems more legit. What is the goal in life? Enjoyment of sense pleasure? Procreation? Creation of works of art? I don't know if the point of life can be slaving away roughly third of your waking hours to fuel a gigantic machine based on pointless consumption of material goods and the 'latest shit'. Then again, I also don't know why we need 7 or 11 billion humans on this planet doing those things and how it's going to be sustainable if more and more jobs are being automated away and more and more people are still supposedly going to be lifted from real third world poverty into low/middle consumer class. No doubt on balance everyone should try to be a force of goodness in this world, right?

Imagine a future where everyone has a choice of showing up to work. Some people will always show up, some people will never show up but the vast majority will show up depending on how they feel that day. A recipe for a chaotic society.

I think this is a false comparison. The owner/manager class and employers no doubt are against ubi because it cuts into their power over others. In my opinion the main benefit of UBI is 'strongarming' employers to having to treat workers better because everyone gets paid enough to move on to greener pastures if they find their jobs paying too little compared to how they are treated or how they enjoy their jobs, allowing people from all walks of life no matter their starting position to be more mobile in society.

With UBI you would get paid more the more you worked and that's an incentive enough. Some people no doubt will cut back their hours or drop out of life with a bong in their hand but that's on them.

How does the economy work anyway? Money has purchasing power somehow correlated to the amount of effort people put into work and the cost of items and services usually reflect a value of time and effort? Won't UBI simply shift some of the ginormous cumulative pareto distorted amount the top whatever% get for simply being at the top to the ordinary folks in the form of a safety net? Productivity seems to be increasing throughout the history yet somehow and arguably perhaps rightly they go to the owners and managers.

In a democratic society we can wrestle some of it back because everyone's in this together like it or not and UBI could make for a fairer and less cut throat society.

I've had some thoughts about liking to see some studies on whether people who write left handed or are mostly left handed dominant still mostly use mouse with their right hand. And to take it further, are these people playing first person shooters with invert mouse more often than right handed people OR left handed people who use mouse with left hand?

The real issue here is likely the diluting mixtures containing glycol and glycerin and whatever else that may be non-benign when vaporized and entering into your lungs in large concentrations and not nicotine itself.

Vaporizing by definition does not combust so there is no harmful irritating and inflammation causing smoke (although my vaporizer allows the temp to go so high as to start to combust weed, up to 260 celsius) so it would stand to reason it has to be safer on its own, especially if you remove from cigarette tobacco all toxic chemicals like polonium and others like MAOIs that supposedly boost the addictive potential and all you're left is pure nicotine.

There is also snus or those small tobacco pouches you put under your lip but I recall hearing about them causing gum damage etc so even that may be more harmful than vaping.

Tobacco (and snus) also have the littering problem. People throw away more or less non degradable garbage on the streets all day every day.

I wonder how much big tobacco (excluding Altria now that they're in the vape game) lobbies against vaping because it eats into their profits?

I wonder how much big pharma lobbies against vaping because it eats into their profits. It is not cool that likely the safest way to ingest nicotine is also likely the most expensive (gum, patches, etc). And these people have the audacity to fight vaping in order for it to be either _smoked_ tobacco or their extremely expensive pharma products.

Surely vaping is the lesser evil compared to smoking and society should allow it OR remove tobacco overnight. Otherwise it seems weird and illogical. (I don't know if removing all external chemical catalysts from society is what should happen.)

Yes didn't he say he meant to cause offense? Using that word (or any word) to offend non blacks does not somehow cause it to grow tentacles and attack every black person alive. Context and intent matters and I don't think you or anyone else gets to make that call on "hidden motives" or effects beyond what is stated on record.

Sargon claims he is using the word in the way described in this stand up comedy routine where Chris Rock (a black person) talks about the difference between 'Black people and niggers' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3PJF0YE-x4

Sargon said something like he was denigrating the 'alt right / nazi trolls' for behaving the way the 'nazis' claim the people they hate behave in.
