Cool! Have done a similar thing in the past with AP Psychology and Anki. ChatGPT is really helpful for turning Quizlet-esque flashcards into good-quality copy+pasteable Cloze cards in Anki.
That's a good point. When I wrote the article, I was thinking of the younger phone-addicted generation as my 'audience' and trying to convince them to spend time on doing meaningful things instead of just doom-scrolling on their phone. That's who I was writing for. My apologies if it came across as cliche.
That's fair. It's helpful for me to break time into discrete 'blocks' because in my mind, it sets off more alarm bells to say "I wasted 4 blocks" rather than "I wasted 40 minutes". But otherwise, yeah. It's pretty standard "don't waste your time" advice when it comes down to it.
Yeah, it is unfortunately quite a bit harder to put on these types of games in a suburban area. Hence why I'm trying to do this type of stuff in college, while it's easy ;)
We actually didn’t even run in the dark! We played from 4:45-6:30pm, where the sun was very much still shining. Maybe next time I host I’ll do it at night.
A bit of advice if you end up organizing it: make sure there's interesting terrain on both sides. Flat, open parks tend to be less fun to play in. Good luck, though!!
Wow! I would be slightly worried about getting in trouble there, but yeah: it's pretty symmetric and has some interesting terrain. Thanks for the suggestion!
True. I got lucky: when we played, there were maybe 20-25 non-players in the entire playing area, so avoiding them was no problem. I didn't hear any complaints about our game. It could have definitely been a bigger problem; thankfully, it wasn't.
