For me it’s mostly battery life. Most bike light batteries are tiny and would require more regular charging if put in solid mode.

Or, "Public has head in sand about plastic recycling." In my city it's public knowledge (even if not well known) that nearly all plastics that get collected on recycling day end up in the local landfill, yet everyone dutifully washes, separates and collects plastics for recycling. This costs tax payers hundreds of millions of dollars, just so they can feel good about not putting plastic in the trash.

Very likely no money was saved by Boeing, composites are almost always more expensive.

Maybe someone with aviation industry knowledge can reply, but my guess is adding a trivial timed shutoff would have triggered an elaborate FAA approval and certification process. That’s probably where the savings were.

Cowlings are now composite (ie plastic) instead of aluminum. They are limited to 5 minutes of use in dry air to prevent the cowling from melting, flying apart, or getting into the engine and causing it to fly apart.

I used to run 10km per day, and 20km twice a week, which is about 56 miles a week, or 2900 miles a year (with no days off). Definitely doable. Now I’m lucky if I run 10km a week.

Didn’t read the article, but Musk mentioned in an interview yesterday they are specifically not using CAN and are using Ethernet. He didn’t explicitly say, but it seems likely they are using PoE, saving a lot of wiring as you can daisy chain a higher bandwidth connection and you don’t need separate power cables.

If I just needed a GPU for learning purposes, is 2xGPUs necessary? Would a single 24GB GPU significantly bottleneck training with any publicly available datasets? Just need something faster than my laptop, but if it takes twice as long, not really an issue.

I know multiple software devs that play hockey 3 times a week during the work day. They could easily be working 2 full time jobs at the same time, but why would you, if you didn’t need to?

That’s not how it works. Applying for CanCon status confers certain tax and subsidy incentives. You can forgo the onerous application process and operate as a normal business.

For anyone unfamiliar with the term firelighter, they are talking about fire starters.

Are these that widespread that they are concerning? I thought they were mostly for lazy outdoors people.

I use newspaper with olive oil to start charcoal grills. Never had trouble starting a fireplace, wood stove or camp fire with anything other than tinder.

I am unfamiliar with the Denver stop.

My experience in many cities that have adopted the Idaho stop (allowing cyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs), is that most cyclists are hilariously reckless and roll through at full speed. Watching streams of cyclists hold up confused drivers at 4-way stops is endlessly entertaining.

That would be ideal. Citizens should be deciding what they view as anti-comptetitive, or reasonable defensive actions, and the FTC and the DOD should act based on those decisions. In an ideal world.
