I am curious how does these online communities do content review to make sure it's not filled with all spams, porn or even illegal content? besides algorithm, how many human resources are spent on these things?
for this part, "scrape the web", what is the web part, is it other e-commerce sites including amazon and so on? do you foresee any issues/risks about that?
when it's expensive, but the US companies like Google, FB and so on should have far more money than tiktok, why wouldn't they do these big bets there?
yeah, Instagram and other social platform/media are still very different from tiktok from product concept. the curious question is, why google or facebook or snapchat are not making another large scale product like that if there is a market for this kind of product (short video)
the productivity is definitely increased. but I do have a question about "software is just never done", many software jobs reduced over time, one day there might only be very few jobs needed.
"Open source gives engineers better frameworks and components to use so you can develop better apps than if you started from scratch on your own. " ---> I totally agree on this. however, if it originally takes 100 years for all engineers to fully realize all the features to be developed, now it may only takes 50 years, after that there probably only need very few engineers to write the software
many people have a statement like this, however most of the jobs would probably not be needed any more because of the new tools and new end to end automated systems. and there are not so many new jobs to be created all the time.
once the productivity is high enough, most of people in the world would probably not able to find a job.
people who control the asset would probably control most things and others can hardly live.
open source is kind of accelerating the process

to put some data here: https://www.iie.org/Research-and-Insights/Open-Doors/Data/In... in 2017/2018 year, there are 363K students from China studying in USA.
https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-reaches-fy-20... 2018 H1b visa total quota is 85K in total for all students from all countries.
while usually <20% of H1B visa goes to people from China. https://www.vox.com/2017/4/13/15281170/china-india-tech-h1b-... so, each year, it's probably around 10K to 15K students from China can get H1B visa, compared to a total of 300K students in China, that basically means about 90% students will have to go back.
it's more about fast growing number of students from China, also working in US requires H1B visa.
I am surprised after reading the comments here:)
the simple fact is that there are more students from China to US over the years because more students can afford the tuitions, while the H1B visa quota remain the same; also there are more and more students from global as well to compete on the H1B quota. so most of the students have to go back simply because there is not enough visa for them to stay.
