A real x86/64 bare metal server for ~ us$3.30/mo inclusive, wow, it seems like only yesterday people were drooling at $99/mo 300mhz Cobalt RAQs at ev1servers (it was more like 15yrs ago). I was able to spin one up in <1min however I was previously registered at scaleway due to their last offering.

Wow this takes me back, we poor UK modem users used to order linux cds from sktechy Micromart adverts, or fork out 40 quid to suppliers like software warehouse (now defunct) when Red Hat Linux was just RHL and came in a box too (no enterprise, fedora not yet born). Never used this particular distro though, $80 for the deluxe edition, one can buy a whole computer pre-loaded with Linux/Android even Win10 (in some scenarios) for less than that price nowadays. Makes me feel lucky

It is unclear if they are blocking paid/public VPNs only, which to be fair are no more secure than without, can you really trust some anonymous guy/gal who purchases a few random dedicated servers and VPSs at different global budget providers with providing a secure exit node? I can't see Netflix would have a legal problem with one running their own VPN on a cloud server within the same country, but I'm yet to find example of particular bannings.

How is Netflix detecting VPNs, just by IP whois details of popular VPN providers and non-residential ISPs? or special client-side latency detection from the origin to the browser?

Interesting but it is another technology increasing the complexity of building web sites, also to consider what happens with chains of dependencies and scripts loaded by things like require.js. I don't think it's required, browsers should just have an arbitrary limit of resources a single tab can use, useless the user promotes it somehow (like unity webapps) or apps running in an electron wrapper. I'm all for Google and Bing analyzing client side performance and penalizing in ranking those that are considered abusive but pushing the responsibility to all eyeballs doesn't seem like a good idea to me. The free one provided by my ISP some months ago, I suspect/hope that such recent models have better firmware to handle buffer-bloat etc.. but I haven't had enough reason to investigate. I would definitely upgrade anything older than 3 years though given the buffer-bloat lessons during that period.

You can have junior developers with 10 years experience, you can also have senior developers with only 18 months experience. I wouldn't lend too much to a title, it is particularly annoying when one hears people pigeon hole themselves with these titles. That's not to underrate years of experience and mistakes a long the way, but call a spade a spade 'developer with several years of experience'

Be careful X core means nothing reliable, for 99.9% of VPS providers, they are not dedicated nor rated and could be divisible by up to 2000 guests (particularly with OpenVZ provider), at least on Rackspace, AWS, Azure the CPU performance is generally within a specific range (variability due to minor hardware config differences, and noisy neighbours, but appropriately restrained). In addition 99.5% of these providers don't have the sufficient knowledge to run a VPS operation, they purchase a few dedicated servers and copy of SolusVM and WHMCS and hope and pray for the best.

De-emphasis the education if you feel it's a disadvantage, stick it near the bottom of your CV, if you dont want to look like a post-academia liability (as you put it) then center your CV around experience so you fit the experience hire category rather than intern.
