I see hardest job market ever. Since 2023 I had ~dozen interviews and 0% up to offer pass rate (half fully passed interviews, with no offer at the end due to variety of cases like money change of mind, other candidates won, ghosting,..)! Up to recent couple years I had over 90% interview passing rate, even in dot com and 2010 (when I had 6 companies interview with 6 offers). I am 55y with rich experience vertically (from low level to high level) and horizontally (multimedia, high tech, many platforms and OS's, major programming languages and few good to pass hard leetcode like interviews). I am better than ever with my skills. (btw leetcode is "disease" and counterproductive the way it is used, I have to say that as that might be part of deeper explanation and I pass it majority of the times, although had few "walk on water" type that maybe only "Jesus of coding" could pass or maybe even he could not)

MS has a history of flagrant abuse of user's privacy much before Win11, with Telemetry, Recall fiasco and Cortana, just try to analyze the traffic from MS Teams and you'll have hard time to find a bigger nosing spyware (Zoom as a Chinese cloaked is arguably close). Mindset of "anything goes" as long as it decorated with "nice sounding words and names" while under the hood is doing a mix of potentially quite nefarious things. I stopped at sanitized Win10 and can not trust that Win11 sanitation can hold (therefore won't switch to it likely ever and there is growing number of users like me). Once you start seeing this, you can't unseen it. Long term it is bad intent strategic direction that will end in loose-loose.

I'd welcome rational and logic substantiated thoughts on "Prediction: Nvidia Stock Price Will Skyrocket to This Range in 5 Years" (into range btw $1300 and $4K)

I was aware of market growth projections and I think there are many factors/bumps on that road. Additionally, investment in AI datacenters is already all or nothing kind of zero sum race, so much so that it has hit limits (power, available money, etc) so that there will be harder limits on such path (i.e. think of NVDA market cap value in a case of such valuations btw $35 and $75T which should fail this analysis). So, what do you think is more realistic (with sound end2end logic)?

As "all birds know" US has the best MSM "the money can buy" and three letter orgs and NGOs extensively manipulate? The paid swamp in Washington is has made and facilitated it. Any surprise?

Stop using Chrome. (i.e. as main browser I use Firefox which with containers is unmatched and Brave for any websites that I used Chrome in the past mainly for faster JS, while speed is +/- per bench) This could not have much effect on Google in the beginning (technically informed users first), but at some point it can (and I predict will, as technical literacy and privacy awareness is increasing, plus greed and productization of user data does have limits..) be avalanche moment. It will take variable time due to many variables, but is inevitability (i.e. universe law of "optimal path"). In my opinion, Google has miscalculated with the move to obsolete MV2 (masking it as "security" adds to dishonesty and consequent distrust, which is the opposite from the original Google's founding principles)

Interesting inversion of priorities? In the age of huge increase of abuse of power by secrecy over-classification and already unearthed arguably up to criminal abuse of power and waste of our money (with all crimes that it caused here and in the world), invasion of the country and countless other hybrid attacks how does secret clearance of few efficient engineers look compared to all of the results already shown and more to come? Is it ideal, no but there was not other known way or all would be open to hear it and cutting the power of executive branch is bureaucratic dream where they could grow like cancer up to killing the host, which they were arguably close.

FB interviewer had "two hard Leetcode problems within 35min", where 25min was background and 1st leetcode problem was "changed" (adding ambiguity to the point of be without solution - later could not find any full solution, for which I stated factors and disclaimers to interviewer).

Agree, such or similar unrealistic interviews are loss for both sides, plus they are plain STUPID. I've performed ~400 interviews that most included coding in my career with consistency and standardized report (can compare apple to apple).

To clarify, in summary so far LLM's can do a bit more than the inputs used for training. Example https://dynomight.net/chess/ as well as some coding solutions are a bit better than each input alone, although if the solution requires more than "a bit more" then LLMs start to hallucinate (spin the wheels). Time will tell if LLM's can jump this "a bit more" barrier? (I can not tell for sure yet, but the current knowledge and my NL tells me if I'd have to put a bet, it would be that the new approach/design is needed)

Nice summary and agree in the way you put it, which I am stating to all sides - so nobody likes to hear it :-) since majority is literally polarized (i.e. their objectiveness, capacity to think deep, sort/prioritize is disrupted by impact to emotions/biases)

"Eureka"!?

At the very early phase of the boom I was among a very few who knew and predicted this (usually most free and deep thinking/knowledgeable). Then my prediction got reinforced by the results. One of the best examples was with one of my experiments that all today's AI's failed to solve tree serialization and de-serialization in each of the DFS(pre-order/in-order/post-order) or BFS(level-order) which is 8 algorithms (2x4) and the result was only 3 correct! Reason is "limited training inputs" since internet and open source does not have other solutions :-) .

So, I spent "some" time and implemented all 8, which took me few days. By the way this proves/demonstrates that ~15-30min pointless leetcode-like interviews are requiring to regurgitate/memorize/not-think. So, as a logical hard consequence there will.has-to be a "crash/cleanup" in the area of leetcode-like interviews as they will just be suddenly proclaimed as "pointless/stupid"). However, I decided not to publish the rest of the 5 solutions :-)

This (and other experiments) confirms hard limits of the LLM approach (even when used with chain-of-thought). Increasing the compute on the problem will produce increasingly smaller and smaller results (inverse exponential/logarithmic/diminishing-returns) = new AGI approach/design is needed and to my knowledge majority of the inve$tment (~99%) is in LLM, so "buckle up" at-some-point/soon?

Impacts and realities; LLM shall "run it's course" (produce some products/results/$$$, get reviewed/$corrected) and whoever survives after that pruning shall earn money on those products while investing in the new research to find new AGI design/approach (which could take quite a long time,... or not). NVDA is at the center of thi$ and time-wise this peak/turn/crash/correction is hard to predict (although I see it on the horizon and min/max time can be estimated). Be aware and alert. I'll stop here and hold my other number of thoughts/opinions/ideas for much deeper discussion. (BTW I am still "full in on NVDA" until,....)

This is uber stupid, because it will create way more divided internet (all countries will start separating further) and will create loss of trust in western/UK/US products (why would rest of the world continue to use iPhone/MacBook, google, Amazon, etc,..) therefore it will have huge cost in terms of lost revenue to all big companies. On the other hand there are smarter ways to do what is needed that respect privacy and do not cause such unnecessary economic harm to companies, but hey we'd need to have smart people in the governments (which are full of not smart people). Another aspect is that this will be unenforceable for huge majority of individuals since there will be plenty of solutions that will circumvent this, plus then number of companies will start forming companies in non affected geo's (off shore etc) and provide for example alternative to Viber/Skype/google/etc.. (some already exist).

There are multiple types of 10x programmer of which I was each at some point in time and shall be when things align. 1st type is "expert" with accumulated memorized domain and code base knowledge as well as organically used tools enabling to scale productivity. 2nd is autocode/reduce-ambiguity which is sweet. 3rd is smart out of the box quiet lazy type to point the right angle at the right time/space to save and this type is the sweetest :-)

I'll wait for after Black Friday and after layoffs and catch some good stuff on craigslist. Plus this time it is different, 1st most deals went online, long before and after into December and January so no rush, 2nd due to inflation deals are worse so better deals might come months after, 3rd post-covid even Halloween is almost no-more so everything is changing

Not possible, CPU is barely working and I monitor it all the time. IT is managing all settings and protection with monitoring and I do work in Security field and know how to be very secure. Thermal paste is properly installed. The issue is thermal thresholds where medium-high fan noise starts at ~45-50C which is way too low.

My company provided Dell Precision 5750 i7-10875H 8core, 4K, is a beauty beast from the specs and looks.

However I HATE IT with a PASSION because there is no way to make it quiet as it is LOUD!?

In my opinion the whole thermal managing team should be fired as incompetent and I speak from my indepth knowledge of working for Intel in a central Arch team in the past. I even meet a number of Dell key people presenting them what is coming and shared best practices how to do each part of the design. They used to do decent job before, but now seems incompetence has won. I am sure there are still lots of good engineers and people there, but result-wise team that did thermal management on 5750 SUCKS TO HEAVEN! In 5750 there is massive cooler, yet fans start going loud (mid-jet sound) when any audio conferencing or any ~5% CPU only load happens and CPU temperature is still well below 50C most of the time, yet this junk goes Wuuuhuhuuuuuusshshshshsss ALL OF THE TIME with rare bit quieter moments! I tried all setting such as Quiet in BIOS and in Dell Power Manager and no setting can help, just make it worse. CPU is 45W TDP one of a later gens. On top of all of the misery with this laptop, in BIOS they locked control of voltages, so ThrottleStop can not work!!! So they can "protect us" from Plundervolt, how ironical. There is no known bypass :-( I also tried turning off different number of cores and turbo, etc, nothing worked well enough. The only point when it started be more quiet for longer periods is when I left it with 2 active cores, turned off turbo, but that makes this machine stupidly slow!

For god's sake, add if needed in BIOS option to disable dGPU and add "real Quiet" option that will make it lower TDP or whatever. Please ease off temperature thresholds as keeping it below 50C to start ramping fans to mid-jet-sound is RIDICULOUS, as with this massive cooler you can comfortably have thresholds ~70C or so and even allow undervolting.

I ended up using it as a "decoration" and still use my personal T460p which has 6th gen i7 45W TDP CPU + dGPU, but BIOS still allows ThrottleStop and even without it T460p is waaaay more quiet than 5750, but with ThrottleStop nice stable setting I got it to whisper quiet and even faster.

I contacted Dell on their forums but their arrogance seem not to allow them to do anything, but leave it as is! Sick situation and now I have to live with 5750 at my work next ~2.5y until next refresh and one thing is certain Dell NEVER AGAIN! I'll keep sharing this experience everywhere as this really made my life miserable. The only thing that can change that is that Dell either fixes this problem with public apology and/or fires the responsible team.
