I think the (CIQ)video made pretty clear the fact that YOU CANT TURN IT OFF and that THERE IS NO OPT IN/OUT button because you would have to be digging around like a technophile to find it in the first place. I would not be at all surprised if Apple uses something like this. Wireshark anyone?

I found the link interesting and am glad it was posted on here. If not the content itself, then certainly the ensuing conversation is relevant to HN. The fact that sexuality is so taboo in our culture yet motivates humans at the most basic level is fascinating. Others question why this link and not others get so much attention, which is another HN relevant issue. Maybe more people saw it at the same time and the sudden influx of upvotes sent it on its way.

I thought OSX firmware password could be bypassed by resetting PRAM. If true then does this invalidate their argument in FAQ about the thief reformatting the HD?

I first admired OSX because of its simplicity and the way it kind of just knew what I wanted to do and started me on the journey that way. Lion was a step backward. defaults were no longer what I would find convenient. Constantly asking me if I want to open windows upon logon even though I always uncheck the box so it should know by now. The reverse scrolling which makes it a pain to use any other system after getting used to reverse direction. I'm starting to like Linux Mint more and more.

It could also be the pace at which the information is conveyed. The lovely information is dished out at such a fast pace that students who would like to absorb the info at a deeper and more intuitive level are left behind while the equation-memorizers win even though they would not be able to describe WHY something is so. Secondly, science has become so compartmentalized that students with a "big picture" view of what science can do get turned off by classes that start off by focusing on microscopic aspect of some part of science.

After seeing what it was, part of me was thinking "is this a spoof site pretending to be real?" while another part was thinking "this is too well written to be a joke." 1) Force yourself into a position where doing your work will seem better than the alternative. Since you are at home, it is automatic for you to surf the internet. If you were working some part-time job where the other alternative would be to chit chat with the 30 year old ladies about their ex-husband, you would naturally adapt and find a way to do something more interesting to you (your work?)

2) Try using a program like VitaminR, http://www.publicspace.net/Vitamin-R/ which acts as a timer to keep you focused. You might find that working becomes a sort of game, and you will be less tempted to abort your work because you can see that you only have 5 min to go.

It's amazing how the FBI can study how each person uses a language, in order to develop a theory on intelligence,social status, etc.
