Yep! Restart Fund is actually partially a product of our pivot. We basically weren't getting anywhere with micropayments, and we weren't sure where to go next. We got approached by a few big companies about talent acquisitions, but we knew we really wanted to be working on something early-stage with a lot of opportunity for growth. So hopefully if anyone else is in a similar position, Restart Fund could be another option to consider.

- Yep, it's a mix of cash and equity -- we haven't quite finalized all the details -- and everything will vest (as is standard), but you'll at least be able to buy a car on day one.

- The equity is valued based on our Series A valuation, which, unfortunately, was substantially less than $100 trillion :-)

- It's definitely an expensive proposition for us, but awesome people make awesome companies, so we think it's worth it.

Unfortunately what is really tripping me up is when we draw that line. I get the principle of regression to the mean, and why it occurs. What I don't get is this particular manifestation of it.

Fair point about "no connection between a and b".

What I should have said was something like: Why is it important that a come before b chronologically? If we were mistaken, and we thought that b came first, then what we would be seeing is "progression from the mean".

Yep, I assumed they were normalized. I don't see the canceling out, though.

I think Star Wars-type galactic civilizations are very unlikely. Instead, life forms (humans included, eventually) probably just upload their minds into better hardware and "live" in a virtual Shangri La. After that, why bother exploring?

a) I use the Yahoo BOSS index of your site to find other pages that would fit the search query well.

b) If the site isn't indexed then SearchEkko just doesn't display the widget at all.

c) Haha well it certainly tries to give the site owner front and center real-estate. It also displays up to 4 results, if they're available (not shown in the demo).

d) Excellent points. It's early -- I just wanted to see if there was any demand for the product before I spent too much more time on it.

e) I don't think that it really works very well in a sidebar. It would be hard to display the other hits attractively, and I don't think it as noticeable to the visitor. I played around with it, and 480px seemed as short as I could reasonably go.

f) Good to know. It's something I've been working on, and I'll try to clarify it.

Thanks for the feedback! In its current implementation, the widget actually only displays other articles on the installed site (that way it's more useful to the site owner). And each visitor's arrival only affects the widget as it displays to them -- they don't affect how it appears for other users.

I think execution (i.e. quality of design, ease of use, pricing -- if any, etc.) is what matters on this one, so we'll see how they compare as JobSpice matures. Emurse is really handy, though. I've used it before!

Bidding is often not a bad idea, as it does help to uncover the "true" value. But it's not the solution to the H1B program. That solution is simply to let any and every qualified person into the country -- indeed court their attention and residence. Anything else is selfish, chauvinist myopia.

I bet that the changes in technology are a smaller factor than the changes in you. Most things are more exciting when done for the first (or nearly first) time.

To measure this properly, perhaps we could look at the eagerness with which children learn programming now as compared to fifteen or twenty years ago.

If you can install any app on the free version, though, why not just install GMail etc? Perhaps not an officially sanctioned app, but I'm sure you could find/make one that would get the job done.

I guess I don't really get where the tension is in the three options. Usually, e.g., you get more options but have to pay more. He seems to hint that handset makers and carriers trade autonomy for more polished software, but doesn't really make it clear.

Out of curiosity, what are the differences which make you say that?
