this piece literally tells only half the story — the execution part.

what makes a great product manager is the raw product level insights and instincts that very few individuals have about the product itself and the direction the world is actually moving in.

this is basically the conjoined triangles of success kinda BS.

The Twitter app for iPad does an incredible job of solving the side-by-side portrait orientation split view problem. I wish the native mail app behaved like this.

iPhone OS 4.0 16 years ago

Did you install 4.0 on a device you use regularly? If so, are there not many bugs hindering your usage? I've been thinking about doing this as well but Apple recommends against it.

More specifically, if you receive more than one notification, the former is pretty much lost. Your app icon is annotated with a number but you have no idea what happened if you have several icons already annotated.

The speed is awesome but some of the UI elements really bug me. For example, there is no elastic scrolling unlike other all other iPhone apps. Although, somebody pointed out that Apple has a patent on "elastic scrolling" which may be a reason for Opera leaving it out. I bet you can't implement it outside of what the SDK provides you.

Also the multi-touch isn't as smooth as mobile safari.

I'm shocked.

The app is still somewhat crippled though, all links from other Apps can only be opened in Safari. So, not the same as switching a browser on your desktop or laptop. Nonetheless it seems like a step in the right direction.

A new Google Docs 16 years ago

Seems unlikely. It's awfully difficult to integrate an acquisition like EtherPad so quickly. I've read that they've been working on a real-time architecture from the ground up for a while. Plus, I think the Etherpad team joined Wave, not Docs.

[dead] 16 years ago

They've been doing it for a while now. Many content companies & individuals drive traffic through YouTube by providing small clips. Even Viacom did this (which is one of Google's arguments against them in the copyright case).

This was detailed in the presentation. Using Google's Admob ads presumably will not be as seamless of an experience for the app developer.

It'll be harder to implement things like keeping the user in the app while viewing the ad or adding video/photos.

What if using Apple's ad network is few lines of code? No library to import, or have a 3rd party dependency on your app.

CloudApp is live 16 years ago

To make this work somewhat seamlessly, check out DropZone. It's a pretty cool mac app that allows all sorts of stuff to happen around drag and drop.

(It has a Dropbox extension as well)

It was extremely unintuitive to figure out how to delete files (you have to hover over the icon, and an x will appear).
