HIRING | REMOTE | FULL TIME Looking for Senior Software Engineer specialized in React Native, GraphQL, Node and PostgreSQL.
You can read about the job and apply here: https://ideatostartup.org/join
React + GraphQL + Node + PostgreSQL
We have written a blog about it: https://ideatostartup.org/blog/idea-to-startup/the-best-tech...
Are there any HNers here that run their companies completely remote?
I am the founder of ideatostartup.org, which is a fully remote company.
What issues have you encountered?
Running a remote company has many advantages over non-remote companies. However, obviously it also depends on the sector the company is in. Remote only companies are possible only for a few sectors.
Did you lose a lot of productivity? Is it harder to grow the company?
The productivity in remote company is generally higher because only the best developers can thrive in a remote culture.
Is it harder to grow the company?
A remote can hire a professional from any location on Earth. If you know how to access the global talent correctly, it will be much easier to grow the company.
I don't have a partner but I'm a very extroverted person, so I think I should be fine in terms of loneliness?
Loneliness depends on the environment. If you stay alone in a house for long, you will definitely feel lonely. But, if you have good family or people who you can hangout with, you will enjoy working remotely even more.
Hope this was useful. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out to me.
And I have to admit that I am one of the biggest fans of JavaScript, so I may be a biased. :)
I will give you some background about why we chose these technologies:
After working with several startups, we realized that almost all startups face one common problem:
They have to deliver the best product using the least amount of resources.
So, we were looking for technologies that would help us :
1. Build apps quickly using the least developer resources - (Save time and money) And 2. Build apps that are performant, scalable and reliable. - (Deliver Quality)
And the JS tech stack helps us fulfil both the aims. That’s why we chose it.
I wrote a blog yesterday about the technologies that we consider as the best to build a MVP https://ideatostartup.org/blog/idea-to-startup/the-best-tech...
If you are into JavaScript, you should also check out : https://2018.stateofjs.com to know which JS technologies in general developers prefer the most.
I have helped many developers get the best remote job and startups find the best remote talent.
I can't promise to get you hired but I will definitely point you in the right direction and try my best to help you out.
Feel free to reach out. The contact info is in my profile.
"People don't have to say when they are working"
We are a remote only company and don't agree with this at all. People should have flexible working hours but others must know when they are working. It removes confusion and sets clear expectations.
We use React + React Native + Nodejs + GraphQL to build web and mobile apps at https://ideatostartup.org
I have been working full time as a freelance developer at ideatostartup.org since last 4 years.
Working remotely has neither affected the way I interact with people nor made anything difficult for me. However, it may be because I live with my family and they have a big social circle.
React and React Native.
At Idea To Startup (https://ideatostartup.org/), we have developed a ui framework "One-Ui" which helps us write code that works on all platforms (Web, Android and iOS).
It has helped us immensely in reducing the time to develop apps.
Hi @isalmon, I can definitely solve your problem.
To put in context, we, at Idea To Startup (https://ideatostartup.org/), have helped startups from 5 different continents around the world create the best remote team in the shortest time.
Let's discuss this over chat. What's the best way to contact you?
Thanks, Nikhil

Our team at Idea To Startup (https://ideatostartup.org/) is a fully distributed one and we have been running very effectively since last year.
To be effective, we have spent a huge amount of time on hiring the right candidates. (Our acceptance rate is less than 1%). We consider the following factors while deciding the right candidate for a distributed team:
1. Self learner. (Given sufficient time and guidance, you can learn any tech on your own using online resources.)
2. Talented and Hardworking. (Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. )
3. Responsible. (You take responsibility for all your actions in both success and failure and don't make excuses. )
4. Reliable. (People can rely on you. When given a task, they know you will do it to the best of your abilities)
Hope it helps. -Nikhil
Dear Trollinson, this thread is not about ideatostartup. I have answered every one of his question in the relevant thread.
I am trying to help entrepreneurs succeed. That is all I am trying to accomplish. But, with the rigid mind which you have got, anybody doing any good and anybody doing anything new will look a scam to you. Elon Musk must be a scam to you few years ago. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs must be scam to you too. If you don't believe in something, it does not mean anything.
Someone is always doing something somebody else said was impossible. Try trying.
I wish good look to you. You have got a good brain and if you utilize it in constructive way instead of fantasizing criticisms, you will do far good to the society and to yourself.
I am literally laughing out loud reading your comment. What happened to you Pavornyoh? You very much sensible last time.
I am aware of many looking for tech co-founders. Maybe one of them got same idea as yours. Would you like connect you with them?
Thanks razeonex. Glad it helped.
Hey razeonex, Its generally recommended to have a co-founder from those whom you know already. Are you sure there is no one of your friend who can be the business cofounder? You can also try http://founderdating.com/
One more thing, contrary to popular belief, there are many successful solo entrepreneurs out there. If you think you can learn about business legislation in Mexico, starting up as a single founder is also an option. You can bring in others later.
Thanks
Hey cdvonstinkpot,
It looks like your main concern is about getting Traction. Here are the 19 channels for getting traction : https://medium.com/swlh/the-19-channels-you-can-use-to-get-t...
How many have you tried? Trying some other channels will certainly help you get the users you want. Thanks
Thanks. I think I must mention in the site that, there are no holidays in those 40 days and average working hours are 10-12 hours everyday. So for 9k you get 400-450 hours of working hours. That's less than 25 dollars per hour.
We received the applications yesterday after submitting on Hn and other places like Google groups. The ideas to work on till October are finalized. The ones received yesterday aren't. So while we would like to receive as many applications as we can, they are not necessary.
Thank you :-)
Convincing people has not been a problem so far. Because its usually the entrepreneurs whom we have worked with that refer us to their friends.
Also, you don't have to pay 9k at once, its usually milestone based or weekly. There is no lock-in. The entrepreneur can leave whenever they want if they don't like the program.
Btw, I really appreciate your questions and suggestions. Is it ok, if I put these questions on ideatostartup?
Thanks.
Definitely not all ideas. We work only on 1 idea for 40 days. And of the 10s of ideas we receive, we only select the one where we can help the most.
Nothing to be sad about nautical. We have already received enough applications and don't need any more for atleast 6 months now. :)
Thank you again, Pavornyoh, for taking out your precious time.
1. We help founders overcome the fear. There is a clear process.
2. By that , we mean following certain processes improves the success rate for startups. Successful entrepreneurs know these processes. And we teach first time entrepreneurs this process.
3. Entrepreneurs who are passionate about an idea face many problems. The first problem is :
i. They need a product but may not have the necessary tech skills. We fix this problem for them.
ii. Almost all failed startups have the product, but what they do not have are enough customers. We guide entrepreneurs how to get customers.
We fix these 2 problems in the 40 days.
After these whenever startup achieves product/market fit and enters in the scale phase, we connect them with the relevant domain experts who will help them scale.
Thanks again pavornyoh!
Since we develop the products ourselves and ensure that entrepreneur goes out and talks to customers, we fix both the problems. As we have seen from experience, many entrepreneurs fear for the first time. And, mostly its about the fear of failure and validation. We help them overcome it and do what is necessary.
We have created a process for converting the idea to startup. If you have noticed, the entrepreneurs that succeed in one venture, are more likely to succeed in their future ventures irrespective of the domain. Once the entrepreneurs know the process, they can execute the details as per the context. We also connect entrepreneur with the expert in that particular domain.
Dear Pavornyoh, Thanks for your question.
By "the ideatostartup is kind of a crash course" , we mean that ideatostartup will take you from idea to startup within those 40 days. Within those 40 days, you will have a MVP and clear cut process and strategy of achieving the product market fit.
The company itself will definitely grow over years but the launch will happen within the 40 days. We have met a number of entrepreneurs who just can't launch even after spending years on an idea. The reason is simple. Sometimes they are afraid to go out and talk to customers, to validate the idea while other times its because they just can't get the product built and keep adding features after features.
We ensure that entrepreneurs get over this fear of launch and focus on achieving the product market fit.
For 40 days, we work 24*7 with the founder/s. After that we provide all the resources and connections we can as advisers.
