I have been searching for something like this. I am immensely annoyed by ads on streaming services and will put forth an unreasonable effort to mute them before I spend another penny on streaming. I'd rather a one-time purchase for an offline ad-blocker/ad-muter.

These types of services almost seem squarely in the space of what governments should/could do with intelligent leadership.

It is probably not too late for a state-driven type of service layer like this from some rationally led government somewhere in the world.

This is a great app and will likely sell well if put in front of the right people.

Many people are far too picky and have expectations out of line with the rest of the world when it comes to software. Ignore those. There are plenty out there who will happily part with $3 for some entertainment to share with their pet.

Very curious if there's a way to use the accessibility features of Android TV to auto-mute when the ads appear. It's not worth it to pay for anything more than the lowest price plan here.

I've looked multiple times for something like this that I could load onto my nvidia shield, but nothing seems to exist.

There is a tool available for chromecast that works very well, but my ideal solution would be an app I can load onto the shield that auto-mutes during ads and un-mutes when the ads are finished.

If I didn't already have my hands full with side projects, I'd dig into this on my own time.

My gut says there are sharks circling this issue waiting to pounce once this storm passes. They want to see it gutted so they can strip the carcass to the bone and try to extract rent from half the internet.

If not, how hard would it be to interact with the hdmi stream and implement an auto-mute feature? I've been considering ways to remove these annoyances and since they don't provide a convenient way for smart people they're justifying the effort to a more complicated approach.

These companies need to leave some low-hanging fruit or they're going to be incentivizing a whole host of developers who are more motivated to solve this problem than anyone they could possibly hire internally.

There is a surprisingly large component to business success that is not technical. I can absolutely see how AI can help decrease technical barriers for those willing to push on an idea and make solutions possible that wouldn't otherwise be available.

There is absolutely some truth to this.

I have been convinced for several years now that insurance companies are likely buying up personal data from many different sources. They seem to be ideal consumers because it'll lead to better outcomes when they can increase rates on those that identify as risky.

Microsoft is doing this same thing with OpenAI connectors in the Power Automate space?

Self-employed since 2005. It's been a slow road and I haven't wanted to lead a big team so it's been a mix of consulting and small projects. One of them is gaining a tiny bit of traction so I'm hopeful I can scale it up. I'd much rather build a software business than lead a consulting business.

In my mind, one of the most likely consumers of our data is insurance companies. It really exposes to me how messed up the idea of health insurance really is.

As an insurance company, you are incentivized to de-risk your pool as much as possible, and by spending a few dollars you're able to get to the earliest possible signals of who might be needing services very easily. Things like complaining about a sore throat on social media to friends, or even within private messages, are all things you might be interested in. Other signals, purchase history, location history, contact tracing, all of these provide potential ways to spot early risk and increase rates/push out the undesirable members of the pool.

Of all of the potential customers of our data, I keep coming back to insurance companies as having the most interest in these signals. When you can identify risks correctly, you can trim out or adjust rates to make things as safe as possible for your income stream.

This has a reactionary component to it that hurts us all. With most of our communication being digital now, I find myself thinking twice about putting out anything that could be taken as a signal to an insurance company. As an avid runner with most of our events organized online, this presents a social cost because I just won't engage in some conversations for fear of how companies will use whatever I might engage with against me.

Where does this type of behavior lead when practiced at scale?

If it is a react website that would imply it has an api you could just use directly. Might still need to login to get a token but that's a lot more robust

I've got a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I've been searching for where the sim card is for the built in cellular modem so I can rip it out.

It astounds me that there aren't more people interested in cutting off the constant telemetry and to be honest it wouldn't surprise me if the car refuses to operate correctly when I do figure out where it's at and pull it.

I've been really enjoying pop_os and am hopeful for a long life with continued support.

We do a lot of work on power platform and I have had some suspicions around the custom connector "test your code" features as well.

This feature allows you to define an api and run it from a Microsoft server somewhere to validate it works.

What security assumptions are applied to the environment from where these run? Are those assumptions universal?

Im curious what percentage of living expenses are covered by the project for the author. I have a few products generating over 50% of my yearly expenses and am feeling like going full time is almost a possibility now.

I am a business owner who has never taken funding and has no interest in venture capital until they line up around the block to pitch me.

Could you share this information as a percentage of your monthly expenses?

I'm pulling the trigger on this after 17 years in business and our ARR covered 50% of our anticipated annual expenses last year.

We also grew by 100% last year, all while on coast with $0 spent in marketing.

The time we spend on the products, when added up over time, the most valuable time we spend, so we have cut expenses and plowed away revenue to help us make this launch this year.

The goal is to meet 100% of anticipated annual expenses in net ARR by the end of this year and it feels very doable.

After 17 years, I'm also shy to discuss details because it's taken dozens, if not hundreds of attempts to find something that worked. Started in 2005.

Rely entirely on SaaS income by the end of 2023. 100% bootstrapped!
