Why are tech stocks suffering while others are going up?

1pts1

Ive always had a f-u attitude. I never listened to the teachers at school. It started in middle school, I realized my grandfather owned his own business and was his own boss. In high school I slept in class except when an assignment was due, i skipped class and came to school wasted.

At that point, I started reading books (I was about 15), my first was rich dad poor dad (which had no real substance besides widening my prospective). Then I started reading real estate books, then 'business' books, automotive books, medical books, biographies, books on philosophy & finally programming books (where ie settled for now). Along with that I started making friends with the 'smart' & 'creative' kids at school, which led to meeting 'rich' & 'successful' people and being able to observe, what I thought, were their strong and weak points.

I feel that 'self-starting' comes from awareness that you can do whatever you want and become successful. How you reach this awareness, I'm not sure (my path was basically family, books, new people).

disclosure: i am on my mobile, so my grammar and spelling may be more off than usual.

On average the wealthy attend better schools, receive tons preparatory courses, are providing with learning assistance, receive better health care and endure more plastic surgery than the not-wealthy. Do you disagree with that?

I think this is an awesome move for them. I wanted this from Open Social, and asked Kevin Marks for it. I didn’t get it.

Facebook is giving it to me soon, and I love it. I think it will really allow for mashups to begin integrating data on a completely new level.

I think all they really need is something like facebook answers, I believe that can be more focused than a search on google/yahoo/msn.

Cause then, they [facebook] are armed with Demographic info, and 50% of the time, a deeper level of focus.

Personally, I love the UI, awesome design, awesome execution. Bookmarklet is sweet as well.

But, I don't know why I need to use this? Why will this help me? What would I store in there?

Currently, my bookmarks menu bar is pretty sufficient.. Is the idea to bookmark stuff I don't know a lot about so I can learn about it via wikipedia?

Yes, and I was saying that xobni should build out a platform for developers to create VALUE ADDING applications to gmail, yahoo & hotmail, like To-do lists, contact lists, crm's, etc...

Kind of like how facebook is a platform...

If I was the xobni guys...

I would make email a platform; as in, make it easy to develop apps for e-mail.

Like To-do lists, contact lists, crm's, etc...

Super Sweet API's? 18 years ago

Anything, examples:

zillow's api twitter's api google's search api indeed's api

basically data outputting api's

I personally like homepage layout, I think your conversion rate could be really high for blog conversions, but, as browngeek said, there is no instant gratification.

I'm not to tempted to create my own cause I don't know what's entailed. I do know it takes 5 minutes now and that's not time I have right now.

Maybe you should make the "Start creating mobile pages" link bring you to a blank mobile page where you can become invested and then force the user to sign up once they have everything they want; like their layout, pictures, url..etc.

Good idea though, and you're off to an AWESOME start.

I honestly think your application could leverage facebooks userbase to gain traction.

But then the problem of monetization becomes a lot larger.

If you dont want to do that, let me import my gmail contacts or yahoo contacts and pick them, then have their email responses threaded. or dont make them log in to answer, just let them click a link and enter the answer.

I didnt apply this time around, but...

You have to realize that while Hacker News may be a community, Y Combinator is actually business. Businesses tend to strive to efficient processes.

Applying to Y Combinator is like applying to any other competition, so don't take the lack of direct feedback personally. If you got a rejection letter, it didn't state things like "You didn't pursue enough extracurricular activities, plus the grammar in your essay was horrible".

I think that what people that werent accepted should do is become a part of this community. Because while you may not get feedback from your application, we will give that feedback, we will give you that support when you are down, we will be the first users of your website, heck we may even be your first competitors.

So, dont drop your idea or stop coming here because you werent accepted or didnt get feedback. It's not personal. Really.

Good Luck!

One thing that bothers me is clutter, clear messaging should be in place on the homepage.

The multiple pictures are eye grabbers so they take away from the text that matters. Like for instance, I think "You can now learn a few words of your chosen language every day." Should be WAY BIGGER AND IMPORTANT.

I like easy, as does everyone else, so make juice worth the squeeze.

Like : http://www.chatterous.com/ http://coordinatr.com/ http://script.aculo.us/ http://foamee.com/ http://rescuetime.com/forbiz http://heysan.com/

I think those have clear messaging and purpose. I dont have to think what it is really...I think this will increase your user signups. As well as making that sign up button WAY bigger.

Additionally, that sign up page it has "I am Learning" then an options like "German <> English"...What's that about? Why not just ask me what language I want to learn and what language I speak don't confuse me... I mean what does that even mean anyway...

Also, when I click one word and it loops through the list, I meant for the word to translate on the other side, not have the flashing red words in the top left...

And what's with the poll? lol

That's everything from me. Sorry if I tore you up, but hey at leasts it's honest feedback, right?
