Not sure if the law changed, but for the 12 years I was on student (F1) and then work (H1) visa I had to notify INS if I changed of address. If you are traveling internationally frequently there was no need to separately inform them because you would do it on your entry form, but I've had to send a special form once when I moved and wasn't planning to travel for a while. This was about 10 years ago so things might have changed.

It could just be self-selection at work. Highly-ranked schools might attract the kind of parents who want that kind of pressure.

Subtle distinction, this is not an article in The Economist but a blog hosted on their site. I find the quality of the articles quite a bit better than their blogs.

If the honeychecker is compromised you are no worse off than without a honeychecker (unless it lulls you into a false sense of security) but as long as it's not hacked it adds detectability. Not sure it's worth the effort but it's an interesting idea.

That's interesting, I've had the opposite experience, so I'm guessing it's a perception issue. I'm from Buenos Aires and currently live in New York, both loud cities. I find Argentine tourists around here are especially loud. Maybe I'm tuned to pick up my own accent, or maybe tourists are louder than locals? (the excitement of the new?) Or maybe, as you point out, we just don't notice the quiet ones and assume they are locals...
