Yea, I say this as a marketing agency owner, not a developer or AI researcher, that besides Sam Altman, Dario, Demis and Elon, that Karpathy is one of the most influential I follow.

There’s a lot of value for the business world in learning AI from someone who has been at the top of their game but now is doing a general service by being a great educator and translator between the fields.

His recent Wiki approach may be simple to devs but is certainly an aha moment for the rest of the peanut gallery paying attention!

This is spot on. I was an impressionable young male that loved that book and took to heart the ideas. Looking back it’s a mixed bag - the ideas teach you about delegation and thinking like an owner, but the bigger message that work sucks and you should figure out how to avoid it kinda hurts people who would be more ambitious.

Pretty sure Facebook is not a company that is taken over by MBAs and marketers that are making this happen.

Rather it's an engineering-first organization, run by an engineer.

Interesting move. Of course makes sense to consolidate offices for efficiency, but seems they're losing a few things:

- Staying true to their roots where they were founded

- Having HQ's across time zones

- Being in the heart of NYC for advertising company connections

- Newport Beach is expensive real estate

Only reasons I can think of them needing to do this:

* If they're going to poach more Taco Bell employees and don't want them to have to move across state lines

* Poaching from the other chains

* Innovation b/c...SoCal?

* Purely for the benefit of the C-suite

The only reason I'm not convinced yet, is that it would be somewhat easy to run a statistical significant experiment with 1,000 people to verify if it's definitely real or not.

Have been expecting some research to come out from either a security firm, university researchers, or other to verify. Don't think it would cost too much to run, hoping something comes out soon.

Totally agree with this, and like another commenter said, WordPress can be a nightmare. If you need Woocommerce because your site is already built on WordPress and you can absolutely keep WP secure [1], then go for it.

As much as developers love to hate on done-for-you website builders like Shopify or Squarespace [2] they are a good first step to get to MVP.

Yea after experiencing the buyout and watching it unfold over a year it got me more interested in how these deals work. One major question is - is the cost savings of hiring a worker in Texas with less experience at a 30% savings worth it if you're losing a few years of knowledge of internal workings and products? Very debatable and probably changes position by position, company by company. Also a buyout has a significant impact on general morale as everyone is now job hunting and wondering which week the layoff announcement is coming.

What that means for you is that your company will most likely be moved to Texas, as is what happened when Vista bought my last company this year.
