I'm building my woodworking workshop. It's gonna take a long long time for AI to invade this area if ever. It's very therapeutic and works as an escape from all the AI craze.
I think Ukraine would have no problem maintaining it's own nuclear program from purely technical perspective, considering they have a number of nuclear plants and expertise. Plutonium is a byproduct of a nuclear plant, they wouldn't even have to bother with uranium enrichment.
I was in a similar situation, but I fought fire with napalm. My new neighbor got one of those shitty hi-fi systems with a sub apparently and separating us was only a thin wall. Our shared landlord and authorities were both powerless to fix the problem, or just didn't care enough, so I took it in my own hands. Unfortunately to my ignorant new neighbor, there's always a bigger speaker and it just so happens that I have a touring grade PA set - I am talking tops and subs with 130+ db output power each. I placed my speakers facing our shared wall and whenever he would crank up his hi-fi, I'd put on noise cancelling headphones and blast him right back at about 20-30% volume of my system which effectively turned the wall on his side into a giant speaker. He persisted for about a week and then gave up. Then tried it again a couple of weeks later, only to quit for good. Giving them the taste of their own medicine is most effective.
You can argue about Hetzner's uptime, but you can 't argue about Hetzner's pricing which is hands down the best there is. I'd rather go with Hetzner and cobble up together some failover than pay AWS extortion.
Wouldn't want to be the guy who pushed this particular commit. It's ironic that the company that is supposed to prevent this sort of thing causes the biggest worldwide outage ever. Crowdstrike is finished. Let's hope this will result in at least a small increase in desktop Linux market share.
But what would it take? Another crash or two? Boeing is like one of those big supertankers that take forever to change course - even if the iceberg was a kilometre away, there's nothing they could do but ram into it.
Accelerating/decelerating at 1G the entire journey would be the perfect scenario. Not only that would be the shortest travel time, but it would maintain gravity inside the ship all the time. If this is not the ultimate goal being worked towards, then we may as well just give up now. Nuclear is where it's at - it's the most efficient weight to power ratio generation known to man.
Indeed. Probably a combination of both nuclear-thermal and nuclear-electric or ion drive I think it's called otherwise. The nuclear thermal would provide initial boost, then ion drive can do continuous acceleration half way and then deceleration the other half way. That would get a ship to Mars in a fraction of time.
This is the only viable future for space travel. In orbit assembled space ships with nuclear thermal propulsion. Travel time to Mars with conventional chemical propulsion takes just way too long.
I live in one of those upscale glass tower estates in central London. There is fancy valet underground parking for some 500 cars. There are 2 slow chargers in total that don't even work 50% of the time. Owning an EV is a fucking joke for most people and I don't see that changing any time soon. Rebuilding entire world's power grid is gonna take forever.
His death, while tragic is unfortunately not surprising. Apparently he had massive addiction issues for a long time now. In 2019 he was in a coma from ruptured colon caused by opioid abuse and the doctors gave him 2% chance of making it, so he was living on borrowed time.
I'd say that if a company doesn't want to invest time in interviewing a candidate in person and instead use automated tests, then the candidate has every right to respond in the same manner by using AI to beat those automated tests.
If US lost "only" 6, one has to wonder how many the Soviets may have lost. Are these bombs still usable? When they decay on some seabed for decades what happens eventually?
As opposed to EVs that have considerably larger manufacturing carbon footprint compared to ICE cars? Also remind me what is the percentage of clean energy those EVs are consuming?
Of course. But how will the manufacturers handle this uncertainty? Seriously, by setting such dates politicians are acting straight up maliciously. If the EVs are so great, let them take over in the natural course.
I have my popcorn ready. Watching the number of EVs increase exponentially faster than the number of chargers. I think right now in UK, where most people are unable to charge at home, there are regions with 1:50 charger to EV ratio which is just comical. Politicians are delusional with their plans to ban the sales of ICE cars in 2030, because it will take forever for the EV infrastructure to catch up.
What future is that? Future with no right to own or repair your hardware, where you own nothing and are completely dependent on the system to survive? The system that is just aching to introduce shit like social score and whatever comes after that? The solution to all the problems is easy, but nobody is brave enough to admit it: we need to reduce the number of people on this planet. Especially in severely overcrowded countries with unsustainable population projections.
Dell Precision 7 series or the Lenovo workstation equivalent whatever they call it. These two options have the official Linux support, everything else just gets progressively worse.
