I can understand that deleting posts is not nice for the people who posted an for the integrity of the information and context, but the link I am referring to is of a different nature, that is the /user?id=me could be deleted without breaking any thread. To add that feature seems a reasonable and sensible compromise between privacity and integrity of information.

Knowing nothing about this person I thought It was a woman: "I want to spend some real time with my parents, while I still have them, with my husband ...".

He/She wants to write a book and has time for his family and take care of his health.

The writer seems to be very good: A world of mass intimacy with their reader, he loves them, he cares and that is the reason I find so hard to go away.

BSousa is commenting in another post down that in Manilva (a town in Spain) the service went down for two days ? (that's all). I posted a link in which Manilva is going to be the first town in Andalusia with 100% optic fiber (only telefonica) and now has 4G. There is one comment in that page from one people living there, and he says: At last we are going out of the prehistoric time.

Telefonica was providing services in villages and small towns with very difficult geography (mountains, roads, ...). Now there is a big competition in Spain, for example Jazztel is offering 200Gigabit/s up-down for 36 euros/moth and phone tax included. Our country is getting better in the IT sector and telefonica was the pioneer. It is easy to critique but in the old times there was no other option, and for many to have the opportunity to be connected is much better than to be out of the web.

It appears that my karma level don't allow me to downvote you (at 240 I only see the uparrow). I live in Spain and Telefonica is a very good company with an excellent service but a little expensive (you have to pay to have good quality). The appropriate word your post is FUD. I hope and wish that such a great company continues its expansion and growth. By the way, I am not affiliated with this company in any way but I recognize the value of great companies like telefonica.

What I see and makes me to reflect is that we allow ourselves to be rewarded (go home) when we are on the way to success. But what happens when we are in the worse part of a start-up? Harsh, very harsh.

In my country, with loads of unemployment (23%) and people struggling to meet ends, some people don't divorce because they can't afford it. Harsh but true.

Just a litte question, why using divorse and not divorce, just spelling or any other reason?

People in racket are using typep racket, clojure has annotation, in lisp you can declare types and sbcl infers them. Haskell also is fond of types. Perhaps in erlang types are not so important because you try to decompose the problem in small parts and hence is not so important to declare types?

I know persistence is great virtue, but I was wondering if there is any way to get real work experience (team, communication, real job conditions) and at the same time getting a good salary, that seems highly unlikely now. Only way to get it if you are able to, in same way, show something outstanding of a great value for your employer, what doesn't seem easy to achieve.

A language for parallelism to get full power of the CPU, a lot of cores, low consumption, long life product, easy to extend and adapt, free drivers, easily adaptable for mobile.

A little nitpicking, I change x^2 to xsin(x), then to xMath.sin(x), then x*math.sin(x) to no avail. In wxmaxima you just have an iterative notebook and you have available a lot of symbolic and numeric computations with no fuss. Also you can create section, subsections, convert to pdf and html, save in xml, and much more. What is missing in wxmaxima is a tool to use your mouse in a much more dynamic way.

If I had to cope with a bullshit jobs that required only physical capabilities, I should try to advance in my start-up or whatever high thinking I am doing. Newton created his gravitation law when the university was shut-down because the pest. Doing something really nasty make you enjoy a lot your mental work in your real passion.

Also, having your mind free but your arms working is a good way of thinking deeply.

Edit2: Addendum For example you should try to learn and read a lot at night but just some core points, and the next day while working physically you should echo mentally all those material, discussing, analysing all in your head.

When I was younger I could reason without writing, now I should need to write thing down, anyway the desire to get out of a bullshit job is a great force, the most boring the job stronger the desire to escape from that job and greater the concentration you find to center into your real passion, your real job, the one you adore.

Each time I begin to learn something new, as a new programming language, the beginnings are very hard and you feel dumb, this is the most difficult part. Once you have practice a lot, then all goes smoothly.

Add to this that everyone seems to forget quickly how hard was to give the first steps. When you are learning something new people take for granted that you should be ready, but may times you are in that stage in which progress is hard and slow. So we should emphasize this point when we start learning.

To estimate the time required to design your system you need to estimate the variance of the time required. A well known result is that the variance of a sum of independent variables associated to independent problems is the sum of the variances of the subproblems.

What this mean in practice? It means that you should try to decompose your problem in independent and dependent subproblems (perhaps associated to features). Independent subproblems their variance, the formula for dependent problems depends of the correlation between them.

What I am trying to say is that if you know a little math and have an intuitive knowledge of the structure of the problem divided in sub-problems you could make a much better estimate of the variance (and this mean there is much less uncertainty in the delivery time). One could design a program that constructs a graph and a knowledge base of previous programs that you have designed. The graph edges should be weighted in accordance with the correlation factor of dependency of those components.

Now that I am writing this, it seems very likely that someone has implemented such a scheme to estimate time delivery. Perhaps there are start-ups using this system to estimate delivery time, since all this is basic math.

I am the poster I am really enjoying this post going up (now 18.14 time in Spain) is number five, I am exhilarating with joy. I can't imagine the pleasure those start ups reach when they launch and they find in their web that page count and money is rocketing, it must be something ever lasting in your memory (and better if it last in your pocket).

Is a real gift to read all those wonderful responses, a language is also about feelings and communication. Maybe one day I will be able to write on the spur on the moment and those written words will modulate love, anger, passion or regret. Maybe in one of those moments I could feel that this language is no longer a wall, that I am not alone any more and that I communicate with someone else soul.

In many fields of science is so difficult to get to some core concepts that IMHO you will surrender before getting to the essence of it. There can be exceptions with high performing people, but for example Einstein spent seven years with Minkowki trying to develop the concepts necessary to formulate his theory in the language of differential geometry.

May I wonder which world is this? You can't access information if you don't have the mental framework to process it. For example, where is the one click to get the information about the concept of Monad in Haskell?

The only way you could access to information in an structured way is the way in which University teach concepts. As another example there is not royal way to Maths, how are you going to get the one click to the concept of diffeomorphism if don't know about the hierarchical structure necessary to define that concept.

Is a very big lie, and a great disservice to students to claim that there is one click to information. The real way to obtain information is to be helped with those that can give you some clues to construct the required mental framework to be able to get information by reading a good book and not by pressing the left button of your mouse.

To decide is this is a success or a failure one need to determine exactly where was the error. If this new knowledge contributes to the design of better systems then this is a success, if the actual error provides us with nothing to learn then this is a very big failure. So there is an amortized cost of success/failure in long term enterprises.

1.) If you get used to be a consumer of solutions (via rote memorization or by always googling the answers or asking someone else) you will never become a problem solver.

2.) Math is useful.

In my humble opinion, the real problem with education is that we usually give credits only to correct answers and mainly to the number of correct solutions, but this should'nt be so.

To get to the point here is an advice for heart care that can be applied with much success to the goal of becoming a problem solver:

If you are out of shape and you daily walk 20 minutes you will be rewarded with a great benefit for you heart, and it will be much greater that the effect on others with strong hearts.

So my advice for becomming a good problem solver is: It doesn't matter that you are out of shape, that you feel dumb or stupid. Try to solve one small problem, it doesn't matter whether you succeed or not, that exercise will produce in you an excellent result and if you persevere you will become a good problem solver. So that is, close your ears to any other solution to your problem and put yourself at working at it. (Sorry for the English)
