Great Question | Director of Engineering | Full time, Remote (USA/Canada)

Great Question is a unified customer research platform used and loved by teams at companies like Amazon, Canva & Brex. Our platform makes it easy for anyone to recruit research participants, schedule customer interviews, and share what you learn with your team all in one place.

We're third-time founders, backed by Y Combinator, building a company for the long-term, with a great team across the board, and shipping at a rapid yet sustainable pace.

We use Ruby on Rails, React, Postgres. We run on AWS.

We're looking for our first non-founder engineering leader to help us keep the trains running on time.

We've built an awesome team + culture at the company, high candor + EQ environment and we ship. We also welcome applicants who have previously run their own startups, with a bunch ex-founders on the team from the likes of Respondent and Indiegogo.

Check out our careers page here: https://greatquestion.co/about/careers Or email me: ned@greatquestion.co

Now is the perfect time for this.

For starters it takes years to sell into government any way. If he writes his first line of code today they might have a sellable product ready in a year. Then getting FEDRAMP accredited and going through procurement cycles probably another year or so.

I think the current administration is likely open to technology-first solutions to reduce friction in government, and the next administration is likely going to have to take a similar approach too.

We're 100% remote in that we don't have offices anywhere in the world, you can work from home etc.

However we're focusing our hiring on specific hubs including Colorado (we actually don't mind which city / town you live in within Colorado), and Brazil (with some emphasis on Florianopolis.

We have team mates all over the world, so we're not totally opposed to folks coming from wherever but it's not without its overhead: regulatory burden in needing to register and pay taxes in all of these jurisdictions, impacts on ability to get together for offsites in central locations etc.

So yes, we're fully remote but for these roles we have a strong bias for people in Colorado or Brazil.

Def sounds like shitty behaviour from your neighbours.

In terms of decreasing crime I live in Oakland in a duplex. Downstairs was empty and crooks broke in and stole a bunch of stuff over several hours earlier this year. We only had a camera doorbell for our upstairs unit and I have footage of one of the crooks walking around the corner with a crowbar, seeing the camera and immediately turning around and walking away. The camera was a huge deterrent for them and I believe the only reason our upstairs didn't get broken into where we were fast asleep.

We now have cameras on every door + a floodlight in the backyard.
