We already provide analytics about the searches performed on your indices. However, we focus on user-facing search use-cases. We don't recommend using Algolia for processing your logs for example. Thanks :) Actually, we intend to continue growing the company in Paris too. The product is developed there.
30% on average in 2014, lower today. Sorry we don't disclose specifics (at least for now). Happy to share experience offline however.
Thanks! Pretty good guess, you're close :)

Yes, we already existed before operating the new HN search. We did it as a way to participate to the community and of course it's good for our visibility. The hnsearch.com domain is the property of Octopart, not ours.
Sure, happy to help!
We usually recommend to perform one query (one API call) per keystroke starting from the first one. The actual number of calls depends a lot on the use-case. Our ranking takes into account both relevance and popularity to suggest the best result first which greatly reduces the number of letters you need to type. In use-cases where there is a very strong popularity indicator, like the number of followers for TV shows, we usually get the correct result at the first keystroke (b -> breaking bad, d -> dexter). At the other extreme, you may need to type several words.
Can you tell us what's terrible? We are always eager to improve it.
Great feedback. Your UI comments in particular are insightful. It's impossible to get something that pleases everyone, but we'll try to get it closer to current HN design in the next iteration.
1. You're right, it doesn't fit your use-case. We'll implement a strict ordering in the next iteration.
What about the video? I'm under the impression that while a good video won't get you into YC, a bad one can keep you out.
Thanks for the mention!

Interestingly, it turns out you can buy your way onto a best-seller list: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142412788732386430457831...
(not saying that was the case here)
Best illustration I've seen. It's not only useful for fresh batches of Ph.D. students, it's perfect to educate friends and family too!
