Why a sphere and not just a circle or conversely a hyper-sphere in many dimensions? The idea of sphere and growth with 4pi steradian suggests you imply something on the fundamental number of dimensions of knowledge (that may or may not exists).

Regarding the growth of this "sphere": if you consider that a human brain is finite and can hold only a finite quantity of information, then there must be a point where any new concept is too large to fit. Hence, the growth stops somewhere, unless we find a way to go beyond this natural limit (but then, are we still speaking of human beings?).

Be aware that genetic algorithms are a type of evolutionary algorithms: Do you actually want to learn about genetic algorithms specifically, or more generally about evolutionary algorithms ?

Yes, but there are other uses. For instance, in "ambiguë", the ë itself is silent but signals that the u before it is pronounced as a standard u. Without the diaeresis, the u itself would be silent but would make the g hard (in French, g before e is soft).

It does indeed, yet if the review makes it clear that the text of a book is not at fault, that the crappy print on demand edition is the issue, it should not matter too much. It would even give them arguments to ask a few pointed questions to their publishers.

And aggregated over all the books that use print on demand, the editors will notice.

Sounds literary, if a bit grandiloquent, more than anything. It was once considered "good style" and books from the XIXth and XXth centuries are full of such sentences. See the works of James Jeans, John McPhee, Carl Sagan, and the like for instance.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but you may still want to take a look at Moore's /Foundations of Mechanical Accuracy/. IIRC, it contains a section on the evolution of machining since the early 1800s and covers the transition between the making of parts made to fit together, to parts made to specs.

BTW, in later parts of the book, Michelson appears as interferometry is used to check the accuracy of parts.
