What he built is genuinely interesting even if it is not something I would want to give all my credentials to. Makes sense for OpenAI to hire someone who has shown he can build something a lot of people want even they don’t know how to make an even half secure app out of it. They probably think he has the right judgement of where UX would need to move to. That is easily more valuable for them than any coding.

I literally inherited a dev once that was so bad we vastly improved velocity once he left. Every couple of months we fixed a weird bug in the code he wrote and laughed about it. The middle manager loved him because we was very eager to work and always around

You could also give people an additional unpaid day off if they ask for it. The good thing about bereavement days is that people don’t tend to abuse the policy much given they would have to kill someone first. Dead grannies are only allowed to make you sad for 72 hours sharp, is a bit of a harsh rule if executed without leeway

I travelled for 3 months out of a backpack with my wife and then 10 months old daughter. Needing to carry all your stuff necessitated a brutal prioritization. The strongest emotion on coming back to my really not all that full apartment was being overwhelmed with all the stuff. It has just become worse with my now two children growing up. My dream as an an empty nester is to emphasize the empty part.

I started eating Brian Johnson’s superveggie about 4 times a week (it is about a pound of Brokkoli and cauliflower plus lentils and mushrooms) and can only say that my digestions thrives on it after a few days. So at least in my gut something needs to change so it can deal with the huge amount of dietary fiber but once it is settled it makes me feel much better overall

No high paid manager wants to learn that their visionary thinking was just the last iteration of the underpants gnome meme. Some things sound good at first but unfortunately are not that easy to actually do

As an Austrian citizen I unfortunately have to tell you that the existence of masked agents in unmarked vehicles is very bad news. The last time we had this they were called Geheime Staatspolizei and we now have a memorial at the location of their head quarters in Vienna. I am not usually someone trying to manifest Godwins law but this is straight out of the facist playbook. Another super worrying fact for me as a European is that the late Dick Cheney was so worried about American democracy and he always looked like Darth Vader to me from across the pond. Suddenly we are on one side, didn’t have that on my bingo card.

So what I take away is that he is using approx 3x electricity, that I do and that is including my electric car. I use an additional 5-7MWh of heat but on a heat pump that would still only be a max of 2MWh which doesn’t even bring me to half of his usage, for a family of 4.

I am also baffled that how common I do something never updates the model. I often use Siri to start a playlist while running but had to rename them because Siri would play some unknown to me public playlist instead of what would seem to me be the highest likelihood target - my own

The part of the population that deals better with our food system want to feel morally superior.

While I am in that part, I realize that having a fairly balanced feeling of hunger is just as much of a privilege as needing glasses to see is a disadvantage. Certainly some people just say fuck it and ballon to 200kg but a lot are just unhappy at 90kg in what should be a 65kg body being hungry every day and still overweight.

Yes if they ate only carrots and Brokkoli they would probably solve their weight problem but it is a hard ask to make in a world that looks like ours. Makes alcoholism look like child’s play since you cannot just abstain from food

When the Soviets were literally standing 60km from Vienna with tank brigades a lot of bullshit was easier to swallow.

Right now it seems like totally unnecessary destabilization. Don’t even get me started on proposing to seizing NATO territory by force in Greenland.

If you buy a really nice monitor, which for me starts at 6K 32” - the eBay computer will no longer drive it. What I find insane is how long companies issued 19” 1080 screens to their employees. I don’t think that was a well calculated choice given that a couple of hundred more over 5 years would have surely improved productivity by a little bit for their 50k year employees. It felt almost done out of spite to keep people in their place

Every second doctor is a below average doctor. Some are outright idiots that just became doctors because their parents expected it of them. They somehow finished med school and now they sick at their job. Have you ever interacted with doctors? In a hospital rotation where you see a different one every week. And they all tell you entirely different things with absolute confidence of a prophet after looking at your file for 2 min and talking another 3?

Even good doctors have a real hard time convincing the bad doctors to do their job right. Never mind some random patient with a slightly less obvious diagnosis.

This is nothing like anti vax, because it is not implying a failing of medical science. It just states that enough doctors are bad enough at their job that user research is useful. To realize you need to go to a better doctor

Maybe the reasons he doesn’t get into is that the only working toilet is only accessible through this room and his mom cannot avoid going in several times a day. Maybe it also stores her Polly Pocket collection and she has a strong need to check a specific doll multiple times a day. Knowing moms I consider the later more likely

I used Claude Code yesterday to increase the duration the invite email token is valid if the invite is sent from another user and the account is new. It simply made all tokens valid for a longer time instead. If you don’t look at the code how do you spot it?
