I am wondering how they will try to compensate when the browser is actively blocking referrer information. In that case the data will be polluted like the website has received more unique visitors, but it is not the actual.

In earlier times, this kind of tracking was the norm. Big Analytic companies tried to distill this information and add value to the existing data to make sense. So the cookies and fingerprinting were added to distill that data.

The heart of the problem, according to several Internet engineers, is that many large Internet service providers have not set up their networks to make sure that traffic leaving their networks is actually coming from their own users.

Why the ISP networks are not doing their job? Isn't is very simple to filter?

I get this drupal error.

-- PDOException: SQLSTATE[40001]: Serialization failure: 1213 Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction: DELETE FROM {semaphore} WHERE (name = :db_condition_placeholder_0) AND (value = :db_condition_placeholder_1) AND (expire <= :db_condition_placeholder_2) ; Array ( [:db_condition_placeholder_0] => variable_init [:db_condition_placeholder_1] => 112720946350f00b3f105ad8.99608950 [:db_condition_placeholder_2] => 1357908800.0644 ) in lock_may_be_available() (line 181 of /export/content/data/dlc/shared/www/developer/includes/lock.inc). --

Why would somebody spit the SQL exceptions on the browser instead of the log file?

Rakuten CEO has stated in the comments that their business model is not like Amazon market place and they would focus on how to empower mid to small size merchants.

That's a good point.

Even then, I wonder why would Google choose a gTLD over any other TLD. For Google, content only matters. It doesn't matter what your address is. If your meal (content) is good, then spidey is happy to munch it and send it's recommendations (traffic).
