As someone who's living in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, the heat is unbearable during the day time despite it being a hilly city. It feels like June even though it's April. I am hearing from those living in rural areas that the temperature is even worse there. I cannot imagine what May and June will bring. The only hope is the annual monsoon rains.

However, it's hard. Very hard. Everyone in our industry has moved towards Electron but we've resisted it for a long time. I have always believed that native experience is the best in the long run. The downside is that it takes more time to build the same feature across two different platforms but this is a risk we're willing to take to provide a superior user experience for our customers.

I can understand your pain. Years ago when I started a side project, I faced a similar issue with Quicktime so I decided to just build a screen recorder which exports to .mp4 by default. It saved me a lot of time and headache.

You should not group Afghanistan and Pakistan together. Afghanistan is not a safe place to visit. Pakistan is absolutely safe as long as you don't visit the western tribal region. Land in Lahore, travel to Islamabad and then to Peshawar and northern areas. You will have a good time. Lots of tour companies also arrange the trips. If you're feeling more adventurous, you can visit Multan, Bahawalpur, and Karachi.

Thanks for this! I've been using this extension for a long time and just removed it today. Honestly, with Macbook Air M1 there is no need for suspending tabs any more because the battery life is amazing, so that also helps.

I hope devs can add further zoom out so we can see a cluster of galaxies instead of just the milky way and that will be even more mind blowing for people to see.

I am running Jumpshare (https://jumpshare.com) and our users regularly send large files anywhere from 2GB to 100GB and in some cases even more. My recommendation is to use cloud providers for sharing files that are maximum 50GB in size. Please note that although you can share even bigger files you have to consider the reliability of the internet provider of both the sender and receiver. For files bigger than 50GB in size, I would recommend a P2P solution.

Pakistani here, I gave Tinder a try once and it was awful. The majority of Pakistanis don't date the way Americans do due to the conservative values. When we sign up for a dating app, what we're looking for is someone whom we can connect with and marry soon - possibly within 6-12 months timeframe. Tinder is optimized for American dating and is incompatible with our family values. Therefore, when you signed up for Tinder in Pakistan, you saw that it was a hookup app rather than an app that helps you find a lifelong partner. Most Pakistanis who're serious about finding a partner use Muslim dating apps like Muzmatch and Minder.

Edit: A lot of people have replied below that this does not justify banning the app. I have simply shared my experience and also the experience of many others in Pakistan. Tinder turned into an immoral app (borderline pornography in many cases) and this being an Islamic Republic of Pakistan, it went against the conservative values of the nation to hookup and thus it was banned by the govt. The govt is the democratic representative of the people and does what the majority of the nation expects them to do.

This is so true. We built Jumpshare (https://jumpshare.com) for file sharing and visual communication, so you can imagine the abuse we got. We had to spend a considerable time and resources to fight this abuse and adds checks and balances which slowed down our product roadmap.

Great writeup! I am still on Macbook Pro 2013, the best 13” laptop ever build by Apple. I refuse to upgrade. All new Macbooks have disappointed me. I hope the upcoming 14” Macbook Pro will be better and without the touchbar so I can finally upgrade.

I am running a native desktop app Jumpshare (https://jumpshare.com), a remote working communication tool that helps you share your work and ideas through instantly shareable links. Basically, it combines video recording, screenshot capture, and file sharing - all in one app. This is not something you can build using a modern browser or Electron because it does not have tight integration with the operating systems.

I have Macbook Pro 13 inch model from 2013 and was really looking forward to upgrading to this year's rumored Macbook Pro 14 inch laptop. Sigh! Now I will wait another year. I don't see anything in this refreshed Macbook Pro 13 inch model that is worth upgrading from my current Macbook.

Perhaps they can offer something like "Commit to using AWS for the next 5-10 years and get 80% discount on outbound bandwidth". Something like that would make a lot of sense for startups like ours. We want to stay with AWS but the rising cost is making it really difficult to grow faster. If we grow fast, AWS gets more business from us, it's a win-win situation.

As a fellow bootstrapped founder, you don't have to worry about drowning in support requests. Simply offer two pricing models, a $10-20/month without support (just work once on a good FAQ that answers the majority of questions), and a bigger $49-$69/month plan that comes with email support. Just because you're offering email support does not mean you're going to get lots of emails, you will be surprised how much a good FAQ reduces support emails.

I agree with Corey Quinn. This should be a wake-up call for the dominant players in this field. The high outbound bandwidth cost of AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud makes no sense in 2020. I hope this causes AWS and others to reduce their outbound bandwidth and inbound accelerated transfer cost to at least half or more after watching Zoom migrate to Oracle.

Then Google should work on a way to connect your purchase with their system or give you ability to inform them you’ve purchased a subscription so that only you get to see search results from that paywalled website, and not others.

I believe any website that is behind the walled garden should be deindexed by Google and other search engines. Whether it's a newspaper, Q/A websites, social media, or anything else. It's only fair. When users search for something, they should only get results of web pages whose content is accessible to all without having to sign up for an account.

Don't post everything mindlessly by following the latest trends. Instead, focus on a niche you're good at, a topic that interests you and you have the experience, and you will get dedicated followers who want to follow that topic.

Beware that some companies demand full-time effort for an advertised part-time job. It’a better to join a company full-time that offers flexible work routine that can fit your friend’s routine/lifestyle.

We're not related to them but I like to believe our app is superior in terms of features which cannot be found in Cloudapp, such as the ability to preview over 200 file formats online, supporting folders, team dashboard, receiving files from anyone without requiring them to have an account, ability to draw and change webcam modes during recording, supporting voice clips and note taking tools, and more.

The reason for so many features is because we've been working on our platform since 2012 and we continue to add more features every month.
