Layoffs Are Coming 6 years ago

If anything, I think tech is protected from the effects of the coming recession. Our industry is one of the best poised to maintain business as usual. That said, the impact of the economic effects is coming.

Does anyone have statistics on the impact of robocallers? They're ubiquitous and universally obnoxious. I haven't seen any reporting on their effectiveness for the services they're advertising for. I wonder why do they even bother.

I understand these calls mostly take advantage of unsuspecting people, but I still can't imagine the impact these calls are making financially.

Legal question: Most employment agreements require employees sign an arbitration clause. Even though these have mixed enforceability, they are very intimidating (which I believe is their intended purpose).

If you had a high-profile case like this, are you choosing to defy the arbitration agreement? Anyone ever gone through this and willing to share the process?

I mean, it's CIO mag, so it's written for the audience. This is the first announcement I've seen for this topic, so maybe they'll follow-up with some engineering blog posts in the next few weeks.

This isn't unique. From Snap, which had a net operating loss in 2016 of $515 million, compared with a net loss of $373 million a year earlier:

"We have incurred operating losses in the past, expect to incur operating losses in the future, and may never achieve or maintain profitability"

I agree with general sentiment expressed by others; a reasonable next opportunity shouldn't judge you because you worked for an unpopular company.

In fact, we're thinking the opposite: let's use this as an opportunity to hire engineers in your position (and we're currently hiring).

I think it's interesting that despite deep and widely-publicized privacy concerns, Facebook's users have mostly been loyal to the platform. Myself included.

Data collections seems necessary to monetize the platform. Are there any alternatives, or do we just need smaller more close-knit social networks?

I kinda see Jira and Trello as separate target markets. Jira = Enterprise (for me) and Trello = Small-to-mid-sized companies and personal use.

My company uses Jira (correctly) and it is great - for software. I keep all of my personal lists in Trello.

Also - VersionOne <<<<<<<<< Jira

I've been to their Spear street location in San Francisco. It's excellent for a quick and healthy (yet hearty) breakfast. It's novel to go inside and not see people cooking the food you're enjoying.
