We are a couple of college students from North Carolina and WordBiLLY is our version of the AirBNB-cereal- box bootstrap for our tech start-up. The other reason we created WordBiLLY was to experience entrepreneurship first-hand, building a product, and tackling issues relating to customer acquisition and service. We design all the pieces and have sourced a local company here in North Carolina to manufacture them. After this, we Hand-finish each piece before shipping them.

What's a BiLLY?

We created the BiLLY to be thought of as a mini-billboard. They are Custom crafted Word Sculptures of your favorite Word/City/Name or Quote. Made in the USA for your Home and/or Office.

We launched a physical product - inspired by the AirBNB cereal box story: The WordBiLLY.

We manufacture each BiLLY here in the United States and hand-finish the pieces in our garage before shipping (yes! an American garage company!)

WordBiLLY is a design company focused on creating modern specialty goods in the area of lifestyle products. We are a couple of college seniors at UNCC in Charlotte, NC and we launched this product in the summer of 2012 to pay for our technology startup.

Would love to hear feedback/ product ideas!

This is a delightful and very helpful advice. Thank You! I must point out: my efforts to reach out to Media personalities on twitter has not been as successful as I had anticipated. But then again, I have not reached out to anybody on NPR. Is there a reason you specifies NPR? also, any tips to reach out effectively would be great. Thank You again.

>I don't even need to look at the data to say that in the US most successful companies have at least one white, male founder. Does that mean that if you start a tech company and are non-white or non-male you should make sure to partner up with one to ensure success?

I feel This statement assigns specific attributes to the data-points in question where as the original data is more generalized (and suited to the argument). Doesn't the assignment of random attributes skew the point being made and just try to forcibly fit a separate tangential argument?

This is an interesting post. I wanted to ask about the following: "I played it nicely by just asking a discount to the host." How does that work from the host's standpoint? I can certainly understand the inconvenience, and given the description of the experience with ABB customer service, is unpleasant and unacceptable. BTW, as young entrepreneurs, we are big fans of the AirBNB success story (see our profile). Consequently, we are always keenly watchful for AirBNB's continued success and other experiences.

Thank You very much Wise Weasel. BTW, where can I get some good advice to market our product effectively? We are preparing a Kickstarter and also ran some fb ads (which were not great ROI). We got picked up by Uncovet and would love to get on fab.com
