Ask HN:Thoughts on Crowdsourcing Crime reports

TiltBrush by Google 10 years ago

That's probably because Google Acquired Tiltbrush and the founders choose to keep it this way initially.

Saw this in response headers.

Content-Disposition:"inline; filename="Facebook.png""

I am using firefox which apparently uses this header to set the title. Chrome OTOH won't do it

We are actually planning to run a referral campaign which will offer discounts based on number of referrals. I saw one such campaign getting great response recently. But the product was in a different domain and their target audience were developer s who have a bigger online presence. I will definitely try out the email approach. Thanks!

"What do you mean by games in specific?"

Like making user play some game on their mobile phone and giving them some discounts based on the win. The overall game experience could be designed keeping in mind the branding and philosophy of the business involved.

It is difficult as we do not ask for any personal information of the reporter (except email address) and all reports are filed anonymously. At present, we are validating the genuineness of the reporter through email verification. I understand that won't ensure complete genuineness but the idea is not to focus on individual reports. An area will be tagged high-risk only when sufficient numbers of cases of a particular crime are filed on the platform. Even if there are a few fake entries, the threat will definitely be real and the idea is to bring that forward. Moreover, we are doing manual moderation and in future we plan to add crowd-moderation that can help in identifying fake reports to some extent .

if you look at the larger scheme of things , once there are sufficient reports you can get location based safety alerts based on crime in a particular location. Moreover ,regions could be marked based on crime density.
