The Hidden Driver of Formula 1 (F1 Aerodynamics) - Willem Toet & Francesco Del Citto. Good detail around CFD usage and config at Sauber.
Maps, news, stocks are all installed by default and supported by ads. Opting out eliminates personalization. One needs to install an app like lulu to block background calls even with personalization turned off. This started with the twitter integration many years again and while social is no longer tightly integrated, the philosophy around user fingerprinting “while not being tied to your identity” is still very much alive and well in a default macOS install.
Mac OS without the background ads garbage or the constant blocking of call-home requests would be nice.
Panzer Dragoon Saga is also lost. Probably a lot of games like that.
I had an old Tandy and the instruction manual touted “10MHz of Intel processing power!”
Still makes me smile.
The updated camera angle is the killer feature for me. That’s the only issue I have with the original and I had that same issue when it came out.
The only reason to play that version is the SotN unlock for the PSP and even then, easier to just download the PSX iso.
Not just that, I think it was summoner 2 which means she’d have to be real committed!
A guy I know proposed to his wife in the end credits of summoner. They’re still happily married afaik.
"It is written entirely in Rust, which greatly increases the overall quality and security of the shell."
Is this true? I don't know Rust so I'm probably missing context. Obvious kudos to OP for writing a shell.
I think the person you’re replying to was referring to the partial support of XML instead of the xslt part.
Many years ago now, Mozilla hired an adtech exec to run the show and I arrived at the conclusion that Firefox would be staffed by for-profit thinkers in direct conflict with their non-profit foundation. That’s the moment I stopped donating. I daily drive Orion as even though Kagi is for profit, they have managed to keep trash out of their free version.
This is really cool. I still play my series X on occasion but tend to prefer the experience I get from my Saturn and Dreamcast when I load a game and it plays without needing to update. Every time I turn on my Xbox or PC with steam/GOG I have to wait for an update of some kind.
Having raised more than $100M myself, I’m not sure I would call VC money a reward. However, VC money should be allocated in part to massive upside science experiments. PE money is focused on things already figured out.
Um…that’s how I skim them. I buy them. Sorry for the confusion.
I skim both almanac products each year. Both have helpful little home tips and quite a bit of gardening advice. Sad to see them go.
It still has great looking icons, a proper boarder bevel, and real scroll bars. Thank you!

For fun what Gemini says: “The notion that Google explicitly admitted to "deprioritizing good results to sell more ads" is a common interpretation of these documents and expert testimony.”
Google hides the most relevant results on the 3rd page. It was confirmed in trial disclosures a few months ago. Their concern isn’t public search.
I tend to agree. However, Guideline (an excellent service imo) has admiral class vanguard funds which aren't always available in rollover IRA accounts. I hope Guideline doesn't go away or become exclusively Gusto (irrespective of what they said in the announcement).
I think it's funny/logical how research suggests LLM use makes the user—who is writing more content for the LLM to consume, of course—less intelligent, which makes the system get less intelligent over time.
Sugar, alcohol, cigarettes, and LLMs.
My mechanic friends say the same. The Range Rover is the best looking suv imo and looks over shop time for those that can afford it. That said, no mechanical issues with my 2020 sport.
That’s funny. Your phrasing reminds me of a Zappa line “dumb all over and a little ugly on the side”.
I recently saw someone on HN comment about LLMs using “training” in quotes but no quotes for thinking or reasoning.
Making my (totally rad fwiw) Fiero look like a Ferrari does not make it a Ferrari.
OpenAI also literally announced that they send data to law enforcement after a judge told them they had to do so.
I was just thinking about this movie on Friday while at a concert. Lorna Shore, awesome show. Anyways, the person in front of me was watching an overweight person (purpose of the niche I suspect which is why I mention it) do their daily chore routine (laundry, cleaning, etc) on tiktok. After the video was finished, my fellow concert attendee quickly went to Amazon and purchased the iron in the video. No links clicked, just serious chore fomo leading to a purchase. All while standing 3 feet from a circle pit/wall of death/etc while Lorna Shore was playing 20 ft from their face.
That’s part of a series no? I’ve not read it in a very long time.
Eventually an open source project will jailbreak these devices like they did Nintendo devices with similar enshitification tactics.
Funny you mention VW because the 914 is a VW. In fact, the name was originally VW-Porsche 914 from what I remember. A buddy’s dad bought one for $4K when they came out.
