One of the worst hacks was the Hostile Anywhere hack, especially for Hardcode mode. Apparently the Hostile button was disabled client side once you left town, but there were no server side checks.

I also remember a gamble hack, where the server gave too much info to the client. The hack would tell you which were Unique/Rare/Magic gambles.

Its high compared to what it was before. I haven't lived in Brazil but I lived in Germany and Chile for a couple of weeks and its high compared to cities there.

It depends on the neighborhood and how aware of your surroundings you are. Everyone knows someone who got mugged either a relative or a friend. Relative of mine was having dinner at a restaurant, 4 armed robbers came in, took everything from customers plus the money from the business. One of them shoots his gun inside, aiming at the roof. There were people in the second floor eating too, fortunately nobody got hurt. Personally, I just take cabs everywhere at night, and walk during the day if I know the neighborhood.

I wouldn't bet on it being a flop. In my opinion, the only unsuccessful Nintendo console was GameCube. NES, SNES, N64, Wii, all a success. PS1 was a success, so was PS2. I'm not really convinced of this industry rule you're talking about.

Wii reached an audience no console ever reached, thanks to the titles and controllers. I'm betting Project Natal will take over a big slice of that market, unless Nintendo really steps it up.

On One Laptop per Child 17 years ago

I am in a third world country, in fact, I believe our country was the first to buy these laptops. I saw a couple of kids on television getting on Wikipedia with those $99 toys. Those $99 toys are $99 more expensive than any toy they ever had. If said toy breaks, they can take it to a repair center to fix the issues or call in for technical support.

I care about the OLPC helping the kids, and I think having these laptops is a vast improvement over (sadly, in some cases) having absolutely nothing. Would you like it better if they didn't get the laptops at all?
