I'm leaving Hacker News. If things got to be censored, it's got to be done on my desk and not by an algorithm or anyone else. If I got to be called a spammer, it's got to be done by a human being. And I certainly don't want to be tricked into believing I'd participate -- I sense supreme assholiness here with which only people can come up who think they're extra-bright. I'll find myself some more honest and fair news site where I can choose myself what I want to see. Live long and prosper.

"Bill Gates the software prodigy". Ha-ha. A PR-fuckup that unfortunately found its way into the minds of journalists who should know better.

In the 80's many books have been written that point out nicely that Microsoft is just a bunch of criminals. They didn't do anything to make our lifes better.

Lots of fun to be had playing around with your brain and a 9V battery!? No. On average a body has about 1000 ohms (wet hand to wet hand) which in my mind divides down to 9mA, 4.5 times the recommended current. 0.15mA reaching your heart will probably kill you. About 15mA/cm² on an electrode will cause tissue damage. So, if you want to experiment with this in a safe manner, get something that will provide only 2mA, no more, no less. And even then you can fuck yourself up easily. Great potential for big laughs.

The Gründerzuschuss is only for people who live of the governments unemployment insurance (ALG I). You get it for 6 months (if you've been employed for one year) up to 12 months (if you've been employed for two years). And there still must be three months of insurance left to apply for it.

If you don't get that insurance anymore, you get about €364 per month plus rent and health insurance (ALG II). Then, you can still try to start your own business but you only get some extra pocket money if you can be expected to make a living within 6 months (ha-ha). If you don't take the pocket money, you have 12 months until you have too look for employment again. Also, you cannot keep the money you earn for investments. About 90% of those attemps fail. Honestly, I cannot believe that the German government wants us to be independent, merely out of the statistics for a while.

Oh, by the way: if they put you on anything that takes more than 14 hours a week (like some €1/h job or some useless course) you're not officially unemployed. That's how they managed to come up with those incredible statistics.

AFAIR some ppl already have played around with that dot-notation. But I must admit that I just tried Parenscript some three years ago and was completely pissed off because it didn't have return values for everything. I want my code to be portable. Didn't touch any of those other translators.

Hmm... I suggest you keep it closed and try to make some money out of it (don't look at me like that, Mr. Stallman) and if doesn't work out just make it open - and should it become sort of a success make some green with it indirectly (e.g. get nicer jobs).

What is it anyway?

You learn by conversation. As soon as you understand or are understood - whamm! You got it. I am German (although I'd spend a kidney to get out of here) and I know lots of English people who learned the language at an incredible turn of speed by just trying to get along. Use your belly instead of your brain. I must admit that most of them don't get the grammar right but it doesn't matter at all and it should get better reading an interesting book once in a while.

And don't get scared. I remember when I travelled to the Netherlands and as soon as I tried to speak a few words in Dutch I got the hot hints where to get a lovely, cheap place to stay. People just LOVE it if you try to learn their language. Remember that. Get out. Have a drink (not too much of course). And check out http://dict.leo.org :)

That's the reason why I don't want a full-time job while I'm working on my thing. Sooner or later it blows up your job, your project, your mind, your liver...

Get into something new. Learn how to cook or play an instrument. Whatever makes you meet people. Get laid. If your project is really what you want to do, it'll get back to you on its own. And then it's quality time as well.
