If you've never picked up your phone to do one thing and half an hour later found yourself trawling through Instagram, having forgotten what you originally meant to do with your "just a tool", you are in a tiny minority of incredibly focused people.

The majority of us, through no fault of our own, find these 'tools' regularly sucking us into a vortex of distractions and time-wasting. The struggle against cheap dopamine hits is real.

The number of medical ‘professionals’ who just automatically dismiss possible connections like this is utterly depressing. I’m sure they must hear plenty of crackpot theories, but that’s no excuse for failing to help people who can be helped. I’m glad you managed to find a professional who was willing to take the time to actually consider your suggestions and help you.

Hmmm, it was within a week or two of getting AirPods Pro (and heavily using the noise cancelling mode) that I developed a strange dull ache/pressure throughout my sinuses and upper jaw. Stopped using noise cancelling and it seems to have improved a lot but hasn’t completely gone away.

Some googling suggests noise cancelling tech has negative side-effects for quite a lot of people.

I strongly suspect that many others must be suffering from environment-/diet-/tech-induced ailments but are simply not inquisitive enough to experiment and identify the sources of discomfort.

A bit tangential, but 'Leicester' is one of those wonderful British place-names that doesn't really follow any English pronunciation rules and you just have to know the right one...

In this case 'Leicester' is pronounced 'Lester'.

Yeah, the content took a HARD turn to the left in the last few years. I don't remember it being anywhere near as political even as recently as 5yrs ago. That suggests either a dramatic change in audience, or some algorithmic change that pushed that content more. I'd love to know what actually happened.

“when you say cities didn't always have more services than small towns and that life in a city wasn't that bad if you were poor”

Pretty sure they said the exact opposite of that.

“small towns suck because they lack services and big cities suck if you aren't one of the wealthy”

I’m quite gobsmacked at the arrogance and dismissiveness of your responses in this thread. Maybe tone it down a bit and be less defensive?

“we realize we have no magic in our minds”

Surely an AI is a digital replica (and homage) of that magic? Without the magic in our minds we could’ve never created that replica.

To me it’s an acknowledgement of how awesome our own brains are that we want to even replicate them.

Its bugs are gradually being fixed (like the ability to just arrow-key straight out of a comment box and be deposited at the end of the document), but I still wince every time I have to use Notion… for work… every day.

Silly things like opening a Notion page in a background tab doesn’t actually load its page title, which requires a reload to fix.

And the page-nesting (instead of the traditional documents-in-folders approach of something like Google Drive) which makes restructuring files an absolute nightmare.

Maybe I’m just too old and stuck in my ways :)

You’re getting downvoted because this is just one person’s opinion and yet you’re presenting it as gospel… dogmatically repeating the same post over and over in spite of there clearly being strong support for the opposing POV. More than one opinion can be valid.

“Nursing mothers inhibit their own pregnancy”

It’s an interesting theory, but having my second kid appear 12 months after the first — in spite of the breastfeeding — makes me very sceptical of its reliability.

"have startups stopped using Invision?"

Speaking as a designer, Invision has never felt like a serious design tool and they've had a constant struggle to find their place in the market. Invision started life as a prototyping tool, and they dabbled with Studio sometime around 2019, but recently they've morphed into more of a collaboration/whiteboarding tool. They're probably more akin to Miro or Jamboard than Figma these days.
