Let me know what you think by complaining that AI sucks on HN!

At least you complied with the next sentence :)

EDIT: Whoa, I didn't check your link before I posted. That's terribly sad. While I agree that LLMs can be sycophantic, I don't think Yegge was debating with Claude about drug use in this situation. Other references might have worked better to support you claim like this first page result when I search for "papers on llm sycophancy": https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12592531/

I reported my terrible experience with Synapse to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in early 2023. They responded that the company wasn't in their complaint system, which seems to be a huge failure for protecting consumers.

We reviewed your complaint and weren’t able to forward it to the company for a response either because the company is not on our complaint system, or because we do not currently handle complaints about this product or issue.

Synapse(FI) is indeed a nightmare to deal with. I wish the best of luck to those impacted, from my experience you will need it <3.

I had fraudulent charges made to my credit card issued by them which I locked within minutes. Reported the transactions as fraud and they initially refunded the balance, then about a month later sent me an email saying their investigation found it to be authorized usage.

It took months for them to admit the charges were fraudulent and refund me. Meanwhile, the balance being investigated was deemed to be delinquent because in the process they reversed the initial refund and would not respond in a timely manner or provide updates. This immediately dropped my credit score ~100 points and took another several months to resolve. A total of about 10 months of absolute frustration and extremely poor support.

I don't wish dealing with Synapse upon anyone.

Not really advice, but sharing my experience.

A family friend of ours gifted me U.S. Treasury bonds each year when I was young, before she passed away. I learned about saving and investing at a younger age partially because these and other financial instruments were given as gifts. I also received shares of stock and then learned about dividends and reinvesting those dividends. I cashed out the U.S. Treasury bonds for the down payment of my first house and I’m incredibly grateful for that assistance, thank you Auntie Hope <3.
